Jay Dennis Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Beals-Geake-Magliozzi Funeral Home on Jan. 6, 2026.
Jay Scott Dennis, a lifelong Medford resident, passed away suddenly over Christmas 2025 in his home on Orchard St. at the age of 65. Scott was born on June 6, 1960 to Joseph F. Dennis, Jr. and Joan (Stewart) Dennis.

Scott enjoyed a happy childhood on Orchard St., playing outside until the street lights came on with all the other kids in the neighborhood. In the summers he and his family made yearly trips to Pleasant Lake in Elkins, NH, where he spent many happy hours fishing and boating with his father.

He graduated from Medford High School and earned an Associates Degree in Business Management from Bunker Hill Community College. Scott worked for many years in the hardware and retail paint businesses in the Medford, Malden and Melrose area.

A lifelong sports fan, Scott followed the Red Sox, Patriots, Bruins and Celtics with intense scrutiny. Like his dad he knew all the players' stats, and could win every debate when it came to sports. (It was great having him on your Trivial Pursuit team!) He coached Little League in Melrose for several seasons. Scott also enjoyed playing cribbage and other card games with friends and family members. In the past Scott had been a keen gardener, and enjoyed cultivating roses and peonies in his front yard.

A cat lover like the rest of his family, Scott was the best friend of Penny and Toby in his later years, and a supporter of the Melrose Humane Society. Well-known on Orchard St., Scott loved to sit on his front porch and greet passers-by, always with a friendly word, and enjoyed passing the time of day with his neighbors, their kids, and their pets.

He was predeceased by both parents and his beloved "Nana" Irene Stewart. He is survived by his sister Irene Dennis, her partner R. David Paterson, and his adored niece Emma Paterson-Dennis.

Interment will be at Oak Grove Cemetery in Medford. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Beals-Geake-Magliozzi Funeral Home of Medford. For additional information, please visit, www.magliozzifuneralhome.com.
