Obituary published on Legacy.com by Herman Meyer & Son, Inc. on Dec. 31, 2025.
Jay Lindsey Grossman was born January 22, 1958, at Jewish Hospital in
Louisville, Kentucky to parents Phyllis and Stuart Grossman, and after fighting cancer for several years, passed away, peacefully, December 29, 2025.
Jay attended pre-school at Congregation Adath Jeshurun, went to Greathouse Elementary School, and Waggener Junior High and High School where he graduated in May 1976.
Jay enjoyed playing sports, LOVED roller skating, loved being a Boy Scout with Troop 30, summer camp and traveling with his family to candy conventions around the country. Jay was an exceptional equestrian and loved to jump with horses. During the late 70's and 80's, he perfected his dance style and was an amazing Disco Dancer (which he chose not to mention in his later years).
Jay had a gift when it came to sound. He could discern even the most minute problem with a sound system and find a way to improve it. He attended numerous auditory classes, became an amazing sound technician, and travelled the world as Head Sound Technician for Tom T Hall. While travelling in Australia, Jay met his first wife. He left the music industry, joined the family business; Spot Distributing Company, settled down in Louisville and had three children: Paul, Kate, and Sara.
When Spot Distributing decided to develop a Slush Puppie distributorship; Sunspot Beverages and Snacks, in Orlando, Florida, and needed a manager for the operations, Jay and his family moved to Florida. During his tenure at Sunspot, Jay immersed himself in the industry and made friends all over the world.
Unfortunately, Jay was diagnosed in 2010 with Waldenström's disease, a blood cancer which he fought, tooth and nail, for years.
Jay was fortunate to meet, date and finally marry Kathy Tourloupis, a lovely, empathetic, and hard-working nurse, on July 24, 2010.
Throughout his life, Jay was amazingly adept at working with his hands. He worked side-by-side with his father and learned about interior construction and home repair. He was HVAC certified and worked with electricians and contractors. Over the years, Jay amassed more tools than most could dream of.
Jay had a very giving heart. With the complete support of Kathy, Jay used his abilities and tools to remodel several areas of their home, help neighbors with issues in their homes, donate his time and expertise working with
Habitat for Humanity, and developed his hobby making copper jewelry, some of which he sold, and some of which he made and gave to family and friends.
Additionally, with Kathy's support, Jay did sound work for local Rush and Pink Floyd tribute bands and assisted different churches with their sound systems.
Jay is survived by his wife, Kathy, his son, Paul (and his wife Emily), his daughters, Kate (Justin Ksionzek) and Sara (Immanual Muniz), his aunt Mara Lai (Tom Forbes), and his brothers, Larry (Susie Stern Kersey), and Robert (and his wife Sharla).
The funeral will be held graveside at the Adath Jeshurun Cemetery on January 6 at 11:30 a.m. Donations in Jay's memory can made to the Rebecca and Barnet Linker Kiddish Fund at Congregation Adath Jeshurun or to a
charity of your choice. For Shiva information, please call the funeral home (502) 458-9569.
