On Thursday, October 2, 2025, Jay Weldon Hadley, a loving husband, father, and grandfather, peacefully transitioned from this life at the age of 86.

Jay was born September 30, 1939, in Ogden, UT to Wilbur “Bill” Hadley and Mary Lygia Hadley. Jay attended Weber State where he studied art and photography. He went by the nickname “Creature” to those who got to know him in school. He was drafted and served in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged. He worked as an illustrator for Hercules Aerospace Co and retired from Williams Company.

He loved to travel with his family across the nation and abroad, where he would make slideshows from pictures taken on the trips to share with his friends and family. He would paint beautiful landscapes, often inspired by photographs that he had taken while traveling. He loved to go to Wendover with his wife where they were both considered very lucky. Dad loved to golf and after he retired, he worked part time at Davis County Golf Course for free golf. He was passionate about Boy Scouts of America, where he earned his Eagle Scout which fueled his passion for being a great Scout Master. He had a heart of gold and always helped people in need.

On August 18, 1961, Jay married Janice Jolley. They first became friends during junior high and dated through high school and college. They were inseparable. Jay would often refer to Janice as “the love of his life”. Together, they raised two children, Blake and Jill, who he shared his traveling experiences with often.

Jay is survived by his children, Blake (Rachel) Hadley and Jill (Marc) Evans; and five cherished grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Janice; his mother, Mary Lygia and father, Wilbur “Bill”; and his siblings, Billy, Barbara, and Donna.

The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to The Villas at Baer Creek and Independence Health and Hospice for their compassionate care and support.

A graveside service will be held on Friday, October 10, 2025, at 11 a.m. at Lindquist’s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd. Services entrusted to Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary.
