Jay Jamison was born in New Jersey and grew up in Brigham City, Utah. He graduated from Box Elder High School and attended the University of Utah. He enjoyed parasailing, skiing, and motorcycles. He also like to play dominoes with his friends. Jay was a survivor; he never gave up.
Jay was a photojournalist with both local TV stations, KUTV and KSL. For his skill with a camera, he won an Emmy Award for his photography and production of a documentary on downhill skiing. Jay loved to ski, parasail, and ride his BMW GS1300. For a time, Jay belonged to the Beehive Beemers BMW Motorcycle Club.
In 1998, he was one of the first recipients to receive a bilateral lung transplant. His lung transplant operation put a damper on some the activities Jay liked to do but he continued to ride his motorcycle. He also had an accident while he was parasailing that injured his back preventing him from continuing in this sport. But Jay was a doer, and he wanted to keep up his strength as much as he could so be bought an electric bicycle and was riding it every morning up to the day before he died. Jay was witty, a great conversationalist, he persevered - never giving up and was a very loyal friend. Jay enjoyed life despite his limitations, a true inspiration.
Jay appreciated all service and help the staff at Legacy Village of Sugarhouse provided and the friends he made while staying at Legacy Village. Jay requested his remains be cremated and his ashes spread in a special place. A memorial for Jay will be held at Legacy Village Sugarhouse, 1212 Wilmington Ave, Salt Lake City, Utah, on Thursday, September 18, 2025, from 6:30 pm until 8:00 pm.
