Jay Kovler

Jay Kovler formerly of Miami Beach, Florida passed away September 20, 2021 at the age of 83. Jay moved from Illinois with his family to Miami Beach and later graduated from Miami Beach High School and the University of Miami. He started playing tennis when he was sixteen and was awarded a tennis scholarship to the University of Miami, which had one of the premier tennis teams in the country. The team made history by having the longest college winning streak to this day of 157 straight matches. Thereafter Jay became the Head Tennis Professional of North Shore Park Tennis Center for twenty years. With his great sense of humor, engaging personality and unique style he was able to teach tennis and mentor countless individuals who also became lifelong friends. For many of them he was able to change the direction of their lives. Jay would always help those less fortunate than himself and always gave tennis lessons to kids who could not otherwise afford to play and made sure they had the funds to travel to tennis tournaments. After retiring from teaching tennis, Jay also made his mark in the fashion world, real estate and food industries. There is a long list of friends who were steadfastly by Jay's side in the last years of his life as he had been for them. Jay will be sorely missed by those whose lives he touched. Jay was predeceased by his parents Max and Beatrice Kovler. Burial was held at Mt. Nebo Cemetery in Miami, Florida. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Greater Miami Jewish Federation.
