Stephen Burns Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Nichols Funeral Home - Wilmington on Jan. 23, 2026.
Stephen Robert Burns, "Burnsy", age 67, of Wilmington, passed away on January 21, 2026.

Stephen was born in Medford, Massachusetts, grew up in Lexington, and made Wilmington, MA his home for the past 38 years, where he built a life rooted in family, community, and friendship.

Stephen was the son of Arline Roberts Burns and the late Robert Burns. He attended the University of Miami. He is survived by his wife, Lorraine Grassia Burns; his daughter, Kristin Burns; his son, Kyle Burns, daughter-in-law Lauren Burns of Tampa, Florida. He was especially proud to be "Papa" to his three grandchildren, Kamden Smulski of Wilmington and James and Stella Burns of Tampa. Stephen is also survived by his siblings: Lynn BelCastro of Florida, Richard Burns of Florida, Leslie Gallagher of Missouri, and Michael Burns of Lexington, MA.

A lifelong sports enthusiast, Stephen had a deep passion for all sports-especially golf. Some of his happiest moments were spent on the course at Lexington Country Club, where he enjoyed both the game and the camaraderie it brought. He also found fulfillment coaching his children in multiple sports, sharing his love of the game and spending meaningful time with them.

Known for his quick-witted humor and sharp intelligence, Stephen was incredibly smart and often joked that he could have been a contestant on Jeopardy!-his favorite show-rarely missing an answer and always keeping those around him laughing and thinking. He also enjoyed cooking and was well known for making his famous cheesecake and fettuccine alfredo, which were favorites among family and friends. He adored his Golden Retrievers, Kopper, Karmen and Kayla; they held a special place in his heart.

Stephen will be remembered for his humor, intelligence, and love of sports, and he will be missed by those whose lives he touched.

Funeral Services for Stephen will be private.

Memorial donations in Stephen's name may be made to the Joslin Diabetes Center, Attn: Office of Philanthropy, 529 Main Street, 4th Floor, Charlestown, MA 02129.
