Jay Penticoff Obituary

Jay Penticoff
December 29, 2025
Jay Penticoff, 64, a husband, dad, friend, and baseball enthusiast, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, December 29, 2025 in Summerset, South Dakota.
Jay Christopher Penticoff was born on September 3rd, 1961, in Kadoka, South Dakota to John and Mary June (O'Reilly) Penticoff. He grew up in Murdo, South Dakota and graduated from Jones County High School in 1980. Jay joined Old Dutch in 2003, where he was known for his hard work and friendly demeanor. His passion for sports led him to spend many summers playing softball and his fall seasons on the basketball court. Jay shared his passion for sports with Dawson and many other young athletes. He coached youth baseball, basketball, and football, leaving a lasting impact on the lives of young athletes.
Jay married the love of his life, Deb (Hirsch) Penticoff on September 21, 1991. Together, they welcomed their cherished son, Dawson on October 8, 1999. Jay and Deb treasured every opportunity to spend time traveling to watch baseball games, camping, and supporting Dawson from t-ball through college baseball. Deb is a devoted Chicago Cubs fan and Jay loved the Colorado Rockies, creating some memorable matchups. Jay's kindness, warmth, and infectious smile made him a friend to everyone he met, whether at home, on baseball field, or around the campfire.
Jay is survived by his wife, Deb; son, Dawson (Lauren); his siblings, Joe Penticoff, Jeff Penticoff (Kelly), Julie Elrod (Jerry), Jill Dean, Janet Penticoff, Jean Penticoff, Jackie Waggoner (Rubin); one half-brother, Mick Penticoff (Marilyn); two half-sisters, Pat Bechard (Don), and Sheila Christoph; several nieces and nephews and his faithful canine companion, Max.
He was preceded in death by his parents John and Mary June Penticoff and his sisters Jane Springer and Jackie Waggoner; and brother-in-law Greg Dean.
Jay will be remembered not just for his love of baseball, but for his ability to connect with others and bring joy into their lives. Memorials will be designated at a later date.
Funeral Service was held on January 3rd.
