It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Jay Paul Pinell, a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who left this world on December 11, 2025, at the age of 55. Born on May 12, 1970, a native of Montegut, LA, Jay was a true "bayou boy" whose love for the natural beauty of his hometown shaped his character and passions throughout his life.
Jay cultivated a career as a machinist in the oil and gas industry, where he worked tirelessly to provide for his family. However, it was his remarkable skill as a carpenter that truly shone throughout his life. In recent years Jay opened his own company, Jay's Handyman Services, through which he channeled his natural abilities. He first ventured out as a carpenter when he built his own home after marrying his beloved wife, Lana, whom he cherished for 32 wonderful years.
A man of many talents, Jay was an avid outdoorsman who found joy in hunting, fishing, and trawling for shrimp. He cherished family camping trips and all family vacations, leaving behind memories that will not be forgotten.
Jay was not just a provider and handyman; he was a gentle soul who touched the hearts of many. He shared a special bond with his granddaughter, Raegan, who he affectionately referred to as his baby girl. Every weekend, they enjoyed sharing donuts and lots of laughter.
Jay is survived by his wife Lana Ledet Pinell; his mother Marlene Portier Pinell; sons Devin (Krysten) and Gavin Pinell; one granddaughter Raegan Brielle Pinell; brothers Jon (Penny), Jody, and Jamie (Summer) Pinell; mother-in-law Diana Sutton (Randy); sister-in-laws Donna Graves (Steve), Alysia Sutton Fortier (Paul), and Melissa Sutton Kimball (Travis); brother-in-laws Lynn (Ella) and Danny (Chris) Ledet; godchildren Woody Prosperie and Lily Pinell; nephews Jon Jr., Luca and Peyton Pinell, Trevor Fortier, Elijah Kimball, and Ezra Kimball; and neices Macie Pinell Foret, Katherine Fortier, Phobe Kimball, Brandy Lecompte, and Ashley Hutchinson.
He was preceded in death by his father Ernie Pinell; grandparents Luby Sr. and Celina Guidry Pinell, and Trasimond and Allie Trahan Portier; father-in-law Duffy Ledet; and nephew Jonathan Ledet.
Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. in Magnolia Chapel at Chauvin Funeral Home on Tuesday, December 16, 2025. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 12 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Montegut, LA. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family would like to thank St. Joseph Hospice for their caring support.
