Jay Reed Spiker, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on April 1, 2025, in Fishers, Indiana. Born on December 7, 1937, in Indianapolis, Indiana, Jay dedicated his life to his family and his career, leaving behind a legacy of love and craftsmanship.

A proud graduate of Shortridge High School in 1955, Jay furthered his education through Tech night school associated with Western Electric. He spent many fulfilling years working for Western Electric in Indianapolis, followed by significant roles at Nokia and AT&T. His professional journey was marked by dedication and skill, traits that he also brought into his personal life.

Jay was an avid outdoorsman, embracing nature through camping adventures at all Indiana State Parks and neighboring states. Many family memories were created around campfires and lakes. He found joy in canoeing and spending quality time with his loved ones in the great outdoors. He was also involved in the Boy Scouts, achieving the esteemed "Voyager" status alongside his son Dan, and serving as a Boy Scout Leader, which reflected his commitment to guiding and mentoring youth. His passion for woodworking was evident in his extensive workshop, where he not only honed his craftsman skills but also shared his talents with family and friends. Jay enjoyed general carpentry and electrical work, always ready to lend a helping hand or create something special.

In addition to his interests in nature and craftsmanship, Jay loved square dancing with a group of friends, cherishing these moments filled with laughter and camaraderie. His thirst for knowledge and growth extended into his community life, where he was a longtime member of East 91st Street Christian Church. Jay held a deep and abiding love for the Lord, embodying Christian leadership and serving his church family with kindness and grace.

Jay leaves behind his beloved wife, Sue Jane (Heerman) Spiker, and their children: Debi (David) Slone, Terrie (Tim) Petty, Dan (Kim) Spiker, Kathy (Rob) Field, and Diane (Chris) Lapinski. He was a proud grandfather to eleven grandchildren and a great-grandfather to fifteen great-grandchildren, all of whom will remember him for his unwavering love and the countless memories shared together.

Jay is also preceded in death by his parents, Harold R. and Helen (Shelhorn) Spiker, who played a significant role in shaping the values he held dear throughout his life.

The family will gather to honor Jay's memory at East 91st Street Christian Church in Indianapolis. Visitation is scheduled to begin at 12:30 PM on April 7, 2025, followed by the funeral service at 2:00 PM.

Memorial contributions may be made to East 91st Street Christian Church, 6049 E 91st St, Indianapolis, IN 46250.
