James (Jay) Lenard DuVal and his twin sister Joann Louise were born to Lenard Eugene and Lilea Geneva (Hunt) DuVal of Hemmingford, Nebraska on December 10, 1940. Joann passed away on December 24. The family then moved to Tabor, Iowa. Jay passed away April 11, 2023 at his home in Huntington Beach, California.
Jay graduated from Tabor High School in 1958, where he was active in football and for several years was a member of the 4-H club where his father was one of the leaders. He enjoyed showing dairy cows at the county fair. Jay attended Peru State College in Peru, Nebraska. He received his BS with a major in Science. Upon graduation, several friends and Jay decided to move to California. He was hired by the Ocean View School District in Huntington Beach, California and enjoyed teaching Junior high science for 55 years, along with some woodworking and photography classes. One of his highlights was taking the science students on an annual trip to Yosemite National Park. When he was questioned about why he didn't retire his reply was always there was nothing else he would love more than teaching his Junior High students

Jay married Marilyn Louise Locklin and to this union Timothy Lenard DuVal was born. They later divorced. Jay then married Sharon McClean on June 25, 1977. They were blessed with a daughter Sarah.
Preceding him in death are his parents, Lenard and Geneva Duval, twin sister, Joann; brothers Larry (wife Rose) DuVal and Byron DuVal (infant). Left to cherish his memory, his wife Sharon, his son and daughter, Tim (wife Mon) DuVal and Sarah DuVal, step-grandson Bobby, brother Bruce (wife Esta) DuVal, several nieces, nephews and many, many friends.
Memorial Services will be 11:00 AM Saturday, May 25, 2024 at the Tabor, IA First Christian Church with Pastor Roger Charley officiating. The family will greet friends from 10:00 to 11:00 Saturday at the Church. Interment of ashes will be in the Tabor, IA Cemetery and memorials will go to the family. The Marshall Funeral Chapel in Tabor, IA is in charge of local arrangements.
