Jay was a man of deep faith who loved his Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ and lived a life grounded in Christian values. His love for family was equally strong and his unwavering commitment to both was evident in everything he did. Jay's faith guided him through life's challenges, and he was a pillar of strength to those around him. As a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, he enjoyed serving as a Patron in the LDS Temple in Baton Rouge LA for many years. He was a Sunday School teacher, a Boy Scout Leader, and served in many other positions. All who came in his home he would felt loved and valued as a friend.
His favorite quote was "With decisions come consequences" and his family and friends heard that quite often. His career included several different interests over the years, the Whitney Bank, Crown Zellerbach, Angola State Penitentiary, Jones Lumber Company, and he served in the National Guard.
Over the years Jay enjoyed playing and coaching softball, showing horses and loved playing dominos at the Thomas Cash Store while drinking a Barq's Root Beer. You could find him often cheering for his grandkids on a ballfield. He was so proud of them all and would yell and cheer loudly to let them know he was watching.
Most of all he loved his family, home life, working in the yard and growing a garden. He dearly loved his animals and made pets of his cows, goats, horses, and dogs giving all a name. His roots were planted deep in his home soil, in love for the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, prayer and reading the holy scriptures as that would be where you would find him nightly.
