JC Maiden, a beloved coal miner and devoted family man, left this world on January 23, 2025, at the Harlan Appalachian Regional Hospital at the age of 83. He was born on April 25, 1941, in Bell County, Kentucky.
A man of quiet strength and gentle spirit, JC was known for his unwavering faith in Jesus and his generous nature. He was a kind and gentle man, who found joy in the simple pleasures of life, especially in the warmth of the sunshine, which seemed to chase away the chill that always seemed to accompany him. This love for the outdoors reflected his appreciation for the beauty of the world around him, a trait that endeared him to all who crossed his path.
JC married his beloved wife, Dorothy, in 1961, and their union was a testament to enduring love that lasted 51 wonderful years until her passing. Together, they created a family filled with laughter, love, and everlasting memories. JC is survived by his loving daughters, Debra Maiden Hensley, who is married to Michael Hensley, and Cherie Maiden, alongside her partner Curtis Garrett; his son, Christopher Maiden; and his granddaughter and special caregiver, Carolyn J. Garrett. He is also survived by a legacy of grandchildren—Sean, Noah, Makayla, Justin, Cameron, Jonah, and Jonathan—who will carry forward his spirit of kindness.
His siblings, Tilmon, Ed and April, Albert Jr and Mavis, Finley and Sue, Lonnie and Marilyn, Ronnie, Ray and Robin, alongside his sisters, Juanita Daniels and Lillie and Larry, supported him throughout his life with love. The bond he shared with them and his many nieces, nephews, and friends created a tapestry of an enriched life that he cherished deeply.
JC was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Virgie Maiden; his dear wife, Dorothy; his son, Charles Marvin Maiden; and beloved grandchildren, Rachiel, Caleb, and Hayley. Their absence leaves a profound void in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
The community is invited to celebrate JC's life at the Mount Pleasant Funeral Home in Harlan, KY, where visitation will take place on Tuesday, January 28, 2025, from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM, followed by a funeral service at 2:00 PM, with Brother Lonnie Maiden officiating. Interment will follow at the Cornett Cemetery at Keith, KY with family and friends serving as pallbearers.
