Jean Frances Apple

Jean Frances (Cunningham) Apple, of Marblehead, Massachusetts, U.S.A. passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 22, 2024, at the age of 98. Jean was born on March 30, 1926 in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada the daughter of Maurice Ward Cunningham and Helen Reardon Cunningham and the granddaughter of Canon Henry Ward Cunningham of Titanic fame. Although she traveled around the world and moved to the United States, Nova Scotia was always dear to her heart. She would always return to visit family and eventually bought a house in Dublin Shore.
During her early years in Halifax, she worked at the Victoria General Hospital in the imaging department. In 1953 she went to England for Queen Elizabeth's Coronation and decided to stay abroad. There, she worked for American Express and Encyclopedia Britannica in Belgium and in Germany where she met her future husband, Burton J. Apple, an American. They eventually moved to the Washington D.C. area of the United States.
Jean loved people and people loved her and she will be deeply missed by all who knew her. She was vivacious, outgoing, and always lit up a room. She loved the Big Band Sound. She was a great dancer and loved to dance to Swing. Creativity came easy to her. She was artistic, fashion forward, with impeccable taste for décor. Her roots in Nova Scotia never left her so she was a magnet to the sea. She loved to swim and sail and walk on the beach and wherever she was she found peace and calm from the draw of the ocean.
She was predeceased by her husband Burton J. Apple and her brother Robert Ward Cunningham and is survived by her daughters Christina Helen Apple, of Boston, Massachusetts, Elizabeth (Shaji) Thomas of Leicester, England and her granddaughters Olivia and Isabel Thomas. She is also survived by her step-son Ted Apple, step-daughter Debbi Dowis, of San Carlos and Los Angeles, California, her nieces Marianne Faith Jordan of Thunder Bay, Ontario (grandnephews Ethan and Jensen) and Erin Hope Jordan of Calgary, Alberta.
