Jean Ann Rutledge Barnes took her last breath on this earth and her first breath in the presence of her Heavenly Father on August 16, 2025, at Hospice of Wichita Falls.

Born on February 11, 1935, in Wichita Falls, Texas, Jean lived a long and full life. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend known for her love of family, sage advice and love for education.

She is survived by 3 children, Cindy Williams (David) of Wichita, Kansas; Donna Tarwater of Flower Mound, Texas; and Julie Olsen of Austin, Texas; 6 grandchildren, Renée Hildebrand (Steve), Amanda Larigan (Tim), Reece Tarwater (Krissy), Erica Jacobi, Andrew Olsen and Isabella Olsen. She is also survived by seven great-grandchildren and a beloved cousin Ronnie Hicks.

Jean was a member of First Baptist Church of Wichita Falls, and was a devoted Christian. She graduated from Midwestern University and started her teaching career at McGaha Elementary where she taught 3rd grade. She then went on to get her Master's Degree in Psychology and later finished her career working for West Wichita Co-Op, where she serviced home-bound students in Wichita County.

A service to honor her life will be held at a later date. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. For those desiring, the family asks for donations be made to First Baptist Church or Hospice of Wichita Falls

Yesterday

I absolutely adore Jean. I've known her for many years through church. When she moved to Rolling Meadows, I was the dining services director. There were many nights I would go sit and visit with her during dinner. We always had the best time. She will be greatly missed.
