Jean Anne Braddon, born in June 1931, in Columbus, Ohio, passed away peacefully at her home in Wilmington, North Carolina, at the age of 92.
Jean Anne was preceded in death by her beloved mother Virginia Jean Kouns VanSkiver, as well as by her devoted husband of 57 years, Colonel John R. Braddon, USMC (Ret).
She leaves behind her cherished children and their spouses: John D. "Jack" Braddon (Prudence), Virginia "Ginger" Braddon, David Braddon (Helen) and Tracy Braddon (Michael) along with her grandchildren, Justin Braddon (Katie) and Alyson Estes. She also leaves behind her niece Antoinette and her 2 boys Jasper and Evan who were also dear to her. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends, who admired her unwavering strength and loving nature.
Jean Anne met John at Ohio State University and they married in 1950. As the wife of a decorated Marine Corp Aviator, she made an art of moving her family over 25 times in their marriage. Her life also included enduring 2 combat tours alone, stateside, with 4 young children, 2 dogs and a cat. She and John enjoyed R&R trips to Hong Kong and Hawaii. In 1970 the family settled in the Northern Virginia area where she became an involved congregant of the St. Barnabas' Episcopal Church. She enjoyed her church friends the Barnabees (craft group) as well as an active participant on the Alter Guild. Her final move with John was to the Woodlands Retirement community where they enjoyed making new friends and taking it easy. She later made the move to Wilmington, NC with her daughter, Tracy, where she enjoyed the company of her family, her new friend Eddie and visits to the ocean. She loved to sew needlepoint and was an avid reader but mostly she loved her family and was only truly happy when they were all near her.
Services to honor Jean Anne Braddon's life will be held at St. Barnabas Episcopal Church, Annandale, VA, at a later date. Interment will follow at Arlington National Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest with her husband.
May her memory be a blessing to all who knew her.
