Mrs. Jean Fountain Corbett, age 93, of Deepstep, passed away Monday, June 17, 2025, at Washington County Extended Care Facility following an extended illness. A funeral service celebrating her life will be held on Friday, June 20th at 11:00 a.m., at Deepstep Community Church, in Deepstep. Reverend Eddie Wiggins and Reverend Larry Giles will officiate. Serving as pallbearers will be Stacey Everett, Carl Veal, Howard Veal, Vinnie Robinson, David Avant and Randy Hall. Mrs. Corbett's family will receive friends on Thursday, from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m., at May and Smith Funeral Home in Sandersville.

Alma Jean Corbett was born in Johnson County, daughter of the late Thomas A. Fountain and the late Lena Stewart Fountain. As a young child, Jean was reared in Milledgeville, until she transitioned to Deepstep, where she resided with the family of Tom and Corilla Roberts. She attended Deepstep School, worked on her family farm, and also assisted in the school lunchroom, where she obtained many lifelong cooking skills. Mrs. Corbett worked as a seamstress for J.P. Stevens and Meadows Manufacturing. Later she began working at Grumman Aerospace as a talented machinist, where she retired. She was an active member and the oldest member of the Deepstep Community Church, formerly the Deepstep Methodist Church. She taught beginners Sunday school, was a member of the Laura Hall Circle, the Church Choir and served on the mission team. Jean was a great cook known for her apple tarts. She was often seen selling her canned goods at the farmers market in Sandersville. Mrs. Corbett was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, and she proudly volunteered in Quilts of Honor. She is predeceased by her parents, her husband Cecil Eppie "Sarge" Corbett, her son Cecil Edgar Corbett and one granddaughter, Monica Knight.

Survivors include her sons, Stephen A. Corbett Sr. and his wife Cindy and Michael L. Corbett, all of Deepstep; her daughter-in-law, Brenda Corbett; grandchildren, Stephen A. Corbett Jr. and his wife Michelle, Josh D. Corbett and his wife Allison and seven great grandchildren.

The family may be contacted at the home of Cindy and Stephen Corbett on Veal Road in Deepstep.

The family would like to thank Dr. Richardson, Dr. Sumner, Dr. Tinley, as well as the medical staff of ECF and Pruitt Hospice, for the compassionate care given to their mother.
