Jean Dahlquist Obituary

Dahlquist, Jean Frederick

August 23, 1933 - May 10, 2023

Jean Frederick Dahlquist died peacefully at home in Arizona on May 11, 2023. Jean was preceded in death by her sister Annie. She is survived by her husband, Robert; her children, Philip and Mary of Arizona; and by her sister, Virginia Walsh of Omaha.

Jean was the youngest of the three sisters born to William and Mary Frederick in Omaha. A gifted and learned educator, she taught English for thirty years at Mercy High in Omaha and at Westlake High in Austin, TX. After three decades in the English classroom, she said, "I think I have had enough of words, I want to try numbers for a change." So she earned an MBA and worked at several large accounting firms till she felt she needed to seek a higher degree. This led her to taking accounting classes at night the age of sixty-eight and gained her CPA at the age of seventy. She then worked on taxes for the next fifteen years. Jean ultimately stopped working only because she fell ill at her desk at the age of eighty-five. She set an enviable record of seventy consecutive years in the workforce, having started as a salad bar girl at the Blackstone Hotel in 1949.

My heart goes out to the family of Jean. She was a beautiful kind loving patient giving woman and I wish I knew her longer. I will always remember how she let my dog up on her lap and on her bed to warm up. I am glad she was in my life if only a short time.
