Jean Russelle Baugh Dice, age 95, passed away on Sunday September 7, 2025. Born October 10, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Lloyd Phillip Baugh and Ethel McCann Baugh, and was also preceded in death by her husband, Edward Rodger Dice, Sr.; and son, John Phillip Dice.
She was a lifelong resident of Colonial Heights, having graduated from high school in 1947 and was married on July 3, 1948.
Jean began work for Chesapeake & Potomac Telephone Company as a hospital switchboard operator in 1947 and continued for 37 years. She was a member & secretary at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Petersburg. She balanced work with nurturing and treasuring her family in many ways including cooking, baking and lots of sewing projects and so many family gatherings. Since retirement, Jean started quilting and has made well over 800 quilts for family and friends.
She is survived by four children, Edward R. Dice, Jr. (daughters, Eva, Susan and husband Robert, and daughter, Ashley); James (Barbara); Kim (Jeff); Sandy (Jesse, son Nick) and John's wife, Linda (son, Gary (Carol)); her sister, Anna; 11 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral Mass will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Monday, September 15, 2025 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 151 W Washington St, Petersburg, VA 23803. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to Mass from 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. at church. In lieu of flowers, please donate to St. Joseph Catholic Church or American Diabetes Association. Funeral arrangements are being handled by the Colonial Heights Chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes and Crematory, 2033 Boulevard. Condolences may be registered at www.ealvinsmall.com.
