A joyful spirit at peace.
A devoted wife, selfless mother, cherished grandma, and joy filled great-grandmother, Jean lived a long life full of positivity, love, and faith.
JEAN MARCELLA DUPONT parted from this world peacefully on December 26th from the comfort of her home. Our sweet Jean is now as free as the birds which she loved to watch at the feeder from her kitchen table. The childlike wonder you feel at Christmas time was in Jean's heart all year round. She had a gentle, joyful heart, and even through the challenges she faced in her journey with cancer, Jean remained strong in spirit. She is survived by her husband Arlo; sisters Virginia, and Donnie; children Bob (Suzanne), Dan (Petey), Vickie (Mark), Bruce, and Mike; her grandchildren Melissa (Jon), Danielle (Austin), Sarah (Kris), Shaun (Mariya), Nick (Nicole), Eric (Brooke), and Trevor; and her great-grandchildren Adelen, Raelynn, Aeris, and Amelia. Jean was predeceased by her parents, five sisters, and a brother. Jean was born February 28, 1936 to Clement and Luverne Benoit in
Crookston, MN. Jean was the youngest sibling to one brother and seven sisters. After her father died when she was only 6 months old, her mother raised all 9 children. Jean graduated high school from Cathedral Catholic School and in 1955 married her sweetheart and husband of 67 years, Arlo Dupont. Together they raised five children, Bob, Dan, Vickie, Bruce, and Mike, in
East Grand Forks, MN. Jean was a devoted stay at home mom, and also worked with children with disabilities at the school. Arlo built their beloved family cabin at Juggler Lake, a place where the whole family, now with 6 grandchildren, gathered to make happy memories. In 2005 they moved to
Canon City, Colorado to start a new chapter in retirement. Jean loved being an active part of her community, adventuring with the Canonland Walkers and Hikers, dining with the Gadabouts and No Rules Supper Clubs, making friends at New Neighbours Club, camping with the RV Group, and fundraising for the P.E.O. philanthropic organization. She loved friendly competition too, whether it was bowling, weekly Pinochle and Texas Holdem', or playing cards with her grandkids. Most of all, Jean loved to sing. The Sweet Adelines had a special place in her heart. She also sang with the Fremont Chorus, and the Saint Michael's Church Choir. Always up for finding treasures at the thrift shop, Jean had a crafty eye for pretty things. She made beautiful greeting cards for her friends and family, and sold them at the local hospital gift shop and Touch of Love Florist. Each card had two stamps on the back "Handmade because you're worth it" and "Created by Jean." Jean's song will be forever in the hearts of those who were blessed enough to feel her love. Many thanks to Katrina and the caregivers at Sangre de Cristo Community Care, and to Dr. Marc Sindler. A Rosary will be held at St. Michael Catholic Church on Monday, January 9, 2023 at 5:00 p.m, and a Memorial Mass on Tuesday, January 10, 2023 at 10:00 a.m at St. Michael Catholic Church: 1016 Mystic Ave, Cañon City, CO. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canon City P.E.O. (chapter DK) or the
charity of your choice.
