Our Precious mother Jean Carol Dury (Livingston) age 96 went to her rest on May 2, 2025 with her children at her side.
Jean was born October 10th 1928 in Spokane Washington to James and Pearl Livingston. Jean was the second eldest of their eight children.
Growing up in Spokane, Jean shared countless childhood memories of adventures with her seven siblings. The home was filled with LOVE and music. Hymns and country music were favorites. Jean graduated from Rogers high school in 1946. After graduation Jean worked at Sacred Heart Hospital setting up food trays for patients.
She met Melvin through mutual family friends and they married after his return from WWII. They established their home near Deer Park Washington. They began the hard work of starting a dairy farm and raising four children. Jean was the glue that helped keep the farm running. She cooked all the meals, serving full course dinners to all the farm hands during haying season. When needed, she did parts runs to Spokane to keep the farm equipment running. She was a talented seamstress sewing clothes for herself and her daughters.
In the mid 70s Jean pursed one of her passions, ceramics. She opened a ceramics shop with her friend in Spokane, and we are fortunate to have many beautiful ceramic treasures that she created.
They dairy farmed for 31 years before making a significant life change in 1978 when they relocated to Lacombe, Alberta, Canada. They lived there for 10 years, continuing to farm at Canadian Union College. After retiring, they returned home to Washington and settled in Liberty Lake, where they lived for the next 37 years.
In her retirement years, Jean cherished traveling with Melvin, children, and grandchildren. They embarked on RV adventures across the United States, including Alaska and Canadian Providences. Throughout her life, her Christian faith was a constant presence, evident in her membership in the Otis Orchards Seventh Day Adventist church. She actively participated in church functions, including their food bank.
Jean is preceded in death by her husband, Melvin Dury; her parents, James and Pearl Livingston; and five siblings. She is survived by her four children, Brenda Grovet, Daryl Dury, Cheryl (Ron) Becker, and Brian Dury. As well as her sisters, Carol Hartman, and Linda (Ken) Grasson. Eleven beloved grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.In lieu of flowers, please make donations to AmazingFacts.org.
