Jean Evans Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Kilgore Funeral Home, LLC - Tullahoma on Mar. 11, 2026.
Sylvia Jean Evans, passed away on Wednesday, March 11th, 2026 surrounded by her devoted family. She was born June 18th, 1942 to J.B. and Mary Cynthia Duncan in White County, Tennessee. Mrs. Evans' was a graduate of Tullahoma High School in 1960. She married the love of her life, Vernon Evans, on July 18th, 1959 and were married for 66 blissful years. Mrs. Evans was Senior Vice President of First National Bank for many years. She started out in the mail room and worked her way to teller. Once at teller, she was afforded the opportunity to get her associates degree from Motlow College. Once completed, Mrs. Evans continued her higher education, obtaining several degrees. Her proudest was that of her LSU Banking Degree. She worked hard and served her community well for many years. Jean was also President of the Kiwanis Club, where she worked with the Head Start program because she loved little children. She also served on the board for the Tullahoma Senior Citizens. Jean was a loving wife and mother, and in September of 1968, she and Vernon welcomed their daughter, Gina Lee Evans, into the world. Jean loved God. She was baptized in the faith and a devoted member at Grundy Street Church of Christ. In her later years, Jean's proudest title she ever wore was Mimi. She was the best grandmother to Evan and Seth. In true grandmother's fashion, she spoiled them both. We'd be remiss if we didn't mention her love for Mr. Wilson (Lauren and Evan's Schnauzer), her best companion. Jean was known to be the best dressed in any room she walked in to. Anyone who knows her, knows she loved her "pink". Anything and everything she could have in pink or glitter, she did. Jean was preceded in death by her parents, J.B. and Mary Cynthia Duncan; her aunts and uncles; her grandparents; and her grandson, Carson Davis. Jean is survived by her husband, Vernon Evans; daughter, Gina (Russ) Davis; grandson, Evan (Lauren) Davis; grandson, Seth Davis; her three brothers, Johnnie (Joyce) Duncan, Ronnie Duncan, and Phil (Charlotte) Duncan; her nieces and nephews; several cousins; and special family members, Chick (Kristi) Knitter, Edie, Trent, and Trevor Burton. Jean lived life with purpose and passion. She never met a stranger and always took care of people. She never backed down from a challenge and was incredibly smart. She was full of life and could be characterized as a firecracker. Her departure from this earthly side has left a hole in our hearts, but we know she's been made whole again with our Savior. Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 15th, 2026 at Kilgore Funeral Home from 4:00-7:00pm. The funeral service will be held on Monday, March 16th, 2026 at 11:00am in the Kilgore Funeral Home Chapel. The family asks that you join the family in wearing pink to the service. It was her favorite color and a way to honor such a beautiful life. A graveside service will follow the service at the funeral home at 2:00pm at Hodges Cemetery in Van Buren, County, Tennessee.
