Jean M. Fleury, age 92, of Maple Lake, died peacefully on January 28, 2024, at her home in Maple Lake.
Memorial Services will be held 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, February 8, 2024, at Dingmann Funeral Care Chapel in Maple Lake with visitation one hour prior to the service. Pastor Culynn Curtis will officiate and music will be provided by Chris Holm. Burial will take place this summer at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery.
Jean Marie Wahl was born on April 18, 1931, in Princeton, Minnesota, to Otto and Hazel (Peterson) Wahl. Growing up in Princeton, she graduated from Princeton High School with the Class of 1949. On January 21, 1950, Jean was united in marriage to Armand Prime Fleury in New Brighton. They built their life together in Columbia Heights, where they raised their four daughters and one son. Throughout their journey, they moved to three different new homes in Columbia Heights, creating warm and loving environments for their growing family. Eventually, they retired to Pickeral Lake near Detroit Lakes, where they embraced the tranquility and beauty of nature that surrounded them. In 2001, Jean and Armand made the decision to move to Maple Lake, seeking to be closer to family.
Jean and Armand embarked on numerous adventures together, forging unforgettable experiences as they traveled. From cruising to Alaska to wintering in Florida, they embraced new cultures, explored breathtaking landscapes, and made lasting memories. Professionally, Jean worked primarily as an accounting clerk at Montgomery Wards.
Jean was a member of the Maple Lake Wine Club and the Maple Lake Red Hats, where she formed lasting friendships and created countless cherished memories. She had an unwavering love for cards and would often gather with family and friends to play games such as bridge at the Monticello Senior Center and 500 at the Maple Lake Manor. Jean also enjoyed challenging herself with Sudoku and crossword puzzles, as well as indulging in her love for knowledge through watching Jeopardy. A avid reader, she found solace and joy within the pages of her favorite books.
Jean will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate to have known her. As the matriarch of the family, she leaves behind a legacy of kindness and resilience that will forever be cherished.
Jean is survived by her daughters, Linda (Don) Holm of Clearbrook, Kathleen (Mark) Dacko of Hayward, WI, Bruce (Linda) Fleury of New Ulm, Joni (Gary) Ludwig of Fairhaven, and Diane (Randy) Troppman of Remer; grandchildren, Dan Dacko, Kelly Buffington, Chris Holm, Carrie Haugan, Monica Hawkes, Trent Fleury, Andrew Troppman, Gena Troppman, Matthew Ludwig, and Brian Ludwig; great-grandchildren, Bailey, Avery, Elias, Seto, Ella, Ryder, Blake, Cooper, Cole, Deacon, Brooks, Jamison, AnnaLynn, Finnley, Otto, Vera, Gavin, Jackson and Giavanna; and many other dear relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Armand; parents, Otto and Hazel Wahl; grandchild, Jamie Holm; two infant brothers; son-in-law, Don Holm; and sister and brother-in-law, June and Bob Iverson.
