Jean Garretson Obituary

JEAN KAY HALSTEAD GARRETSON, 83, passed away surrounded by family and friends on March 2, 2026.
The eldest child of Thearn and Nellie Halstead, Jean Kay was born, raised, and lived her life in Boone County WV. After serving in the United States Marine Corps, she began raising her family. She enjoyed bowling, playing cards, crocheting, and loving on her grandchildren. Jean
Kay was a graduate of the 1960 class of Sherman High and a core member of their reunion team. She was an accomplished Avon Lady and worked tirelessly to provide for her family. She spent her entire life taking care of others and placing her needs aside. Momaw Jean Kay was a light in any room, a sweetheart, a storyteller, a stranger to no one, and a friend to everyone. Most importantly, she was a devout Christian and a member of the Drawdy Church of Christ.
She is survived by her sister Sandy Lou Callahan; children, William Keith Garretson (Cheryl), Charlotte Kay Garretson (Jeff Skaggs), Galen Gene Garretson (Lora) and Karen Kay Rollo (Ronnie); grandchildren Kristen, Keith, Kaytee, Kristopher, John, Marisa, Kellsie, Jacob, Parker, Dalton and Sophia; great-grand children Brayden, Braxton, Josie, Silas, Colt, Aubrey and Emersyn. As she was related to everybody in some way or another, she also leaves behind cherished cousins, nieces, nephews and extended family.
She was an organ donor, bequeathing her body to the Center for Organ Recovery & Education (CORE).
A celebration of life will be held at the Peytona Church of Christ on Saturday the 7th of March at 12 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to your favorite charity in her name.
Condolences may be sent to the family by posting directly to her Facebook page.

Yesterday

How I loved JeanK! We shared many hours together over the past 25 years or so! She was my online friend, my Spade´s partner and confidant. We were blessed to meet each other in person and hug, and laugh and win our Yahoo Spade League´s Tournament in Tennessee. Heaven is an even sweeter place with her presence! If they have a big eating around the Pearly Gates, I bet she takes her Bologna Salad! Love and prayers for her dear family and her many sweet friends.

My heart is broken. She was a friend that always listened and gave good advise. God has a gained a wonderful Angel that everyone she knew felt she was here on earth too. Love you Jean Kay, will miss you until we meet again
