Jean McCallum King, 89, of Lorenzo passed away September 15, 2025 surrounded by loving family.

Jean was born on April 29, 1936, in Ayrshire, Scotland, to John and Agnes McCallum. Growing up surrounded by the laughter and chaos of nine siblings, four sisters, and five brothers, which shaped her into the nurturing woman we all knew and loved. Though just 4'11" on a good day, her strength, resilience, and fiery spirit were larger than life.

While in Scotland, Jean met Roland King, who was serving in the Air Force. Their love story began there and blossomed into a lifelong journey. They married on July 11, 1952.

In 1957, Jean and Roland moved to Lubbock, Texas, later settling in Lorenzo in 1963. Together, they built not only a home but a legacy. They raised three wonderful children, John, Steve, and Carol, who were Jean's greatest joy and proudest accomplishment. She loved small-town life and treasured neighbors like Norma and Deborah.

Jean and Roland worked side-by-side for 32 years running King's Mobile Home Repair. Their business was a true testament to their shared dedication, hard work, and commitment to their community.

Jean's life was full of simple joys and rich memories. She loved to bake, filling her home with the sweet smell of her kitchen and the laughter of family gathered around her table. She tended her roses, doted on her dogs, and cared for every stray cat in town.

Music filled Jean's heart. Whether it was old country songs or childhood nursery rhymes, she loved to sing. Her heavy accent added extra charm to every tune, especially Patsy Cline. She cherished trips to Louisiana to visit family and loved boating and fishing with Roland at Buffalo Lake and White River.

Above all, Jean was proud of the life she and Roland built together: a long, beautiful marriage, a thriving business, and three loving children.

Though we will miss her deeply, her spirit lives on in the lives she touched. As we say goodbye, we give thanks for her remarkable life. We take comfort knowing she'll be waiting at the pearly gates, robe on, cigarette in one hand, and a cup of tea in the other.

In lieu of flowers, her family suggests memorials to Lorenzo Senior Citizens Center, P.O. Box 571, Lorenzo, TX 79343.

Best mother in law you could ask for! Will certainly miss the sound of her unmistakable Scottish/Texan voice. You will always have a special place in my heart. Soon will toast you with a cup of tea!
