Jean Lecker Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by All Veterans Funeral & Cremation - Centennial on Oct. 29, 2024.
Jean Marie (Herbst) Lecker passed away May 24, 2024 at the age of 85, after a valiant struggle with cancer and heart disease.
She is preceded by her father, Joseph Herbst, mother, Edith (Hoh) Herbst, sister Gracie Burns, and sister Marie (Pudgie) Nickel.
She is survived by her husband Fred, daughters Valerie, Lynne, and Jennifer, son Nicholas, 5 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren and her sister Lindy, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and more. She will be remembered and is greatly missed.
Jean graduated from Central Catholic High School, class of 1957.
Jean was a wife of over 65 years of marriage, a mother, a sister, and friend to many.
A woman of many interests such as painting, needlework, playing the piano, singing, golfing, playing bingo, going up on "the hill" occasionally for some fun in the casinos, and loving to entertain. Hosting a gathering for family was one of her greatest pleasures and Christmas her favorite holiday.
She loved to travel and over the years went to many places camping in the U.S. She, along with her husband Fred, took several trips to Europe, Russia and the Republic of Georgia, and went to New Zealand, Mexico and Canada. She made many friends overseas and enjoyed meeting new people and experiencing different cultures.
She loved to look at "her" mountains, particularly Pikes Peak. She also watched the clouds and looked for formations that resembled animals, people, or other objects. Jean had a very active imagination.
Jean had a huge love of life, a generous heart, and oftentimes she still had a child-like innocence concerning people and the world around her. She would do anything to help other people and animals. She could not stand mistreatment and abuse of others, human or animal. She always looked for the beauty in the world.
We hold our wife, mother, sister, and friend close to our hearts. She will never be truly gone as long as we remember her in seeing her in the actions and faces of her family, telling stories of the things she did or said, and looking at the beauty of the world around us.
Jean will be buried July 1st at Ft. Logan National Cemetery, Colorado and at a later date at St. Marys Catholic Cemetery, Pennsylvania.
In lieu of flowers please send any donations to the American Cancer Society or the Denver Dumb Friends League animal rescue.
