It is with deepest sorrow we announce that Jean M. Lockhart, age 75, of Kerrville, Texas, passed away on Tuesday, July 5, 2022. The eldest of four, she was born in Medina, Ohio, to Wade D. Barnes and Patricia Courtney Barnes on July 10, 1946.
Jean grew up in Pharr and McAllen, Texas, graduating from McAllen High School in 1964. Upon graduation, she attended Southwest Texas State (now Texas State) then transferred to Pan American College (now UTRGV), graduating with her Bachelor of Arts in 1968. That same year, Jean married Charles "Chuck" Lockhart, the love of her life, and one year later, they had a son, Michael.
Jean's career in office supplies spanned several decades in the Rio Grande Valley, as well as Fort Stockton, and along the way she acquired many friends. Jean was an outgoing lady who never met a stranger and was always willing to lend a helping hand. She was even awarded the 2013 Ambassador of the Year by the Fort Stockton Chamber of Commerce.
After retiring, Jean and Chuck settled in Kerrville, fulfilling a life-long dream, but retirement did not slow her down. She was an active member of the community, regularly assisting others. Jean was passionate about being involved and helping people. She was a long-time Remuda volunteer and a supporter of the Museum of Western Art. She was also a member of the sorority, Beta Sigma Phi, which she loved.
Jean is preceded in death by her son, Michael, her parents, Wade and Pat Barnes, and her youngest sister, Nancy Barnes McNabney, and her great-nephew, K.C. Klose.
Jean is survived by her husband, Charles Lockhart, of Kerrville; her sister, Susan Bills, and husband, Craig, of Willis, Texas; and brother, David Barnes, of Spring, Texas. Jean is also survived by four nieces, three great-nieces, one great-nephew, and numerous friends.
A celebration of Jean's life will take place at The Museum of Western Art at 3:00pm on Sunday, July 17, 2022 with Bill Johnson officiating the service.
Arrangements are under the direction and professional care of the professionals at Kerrville Funeral Home (830) 895-5111.
