REST IN PEACE OLD FRIEND...

Tragic news to learn of Jean's passing.
I attended UB from 1978-1982. My path crossed with Jean and his brother, Guy in the wrestling room. Jean was well mannered from the start. We practiced in and out of that room every day. We bonded as friends from the beginning. We ended up renting from our coach on Heath Street. A tribe of us lived there. A tribe of wrestlers. I will leave those memories between us. We became one big family as noted by this picture over 35 years later. A funny memory that has become a fond memory, after making weight at an out of town tournament we were going to eat. We were driving to breakfast as a team. Jean wouldn't stop saying how he was starving. He must have said it 100 times. When we finally got to the restaurant, he ordered a bagel and a hot drink. Jean was solid in everything he did. He was a strong willed competitor. No matter who his competitor was, he always went out to beat him. He was a perfectionist in everything he did. Passionate. Hardworking. Classy dresser no matter the occasion. He would comb his hair a thousand times before we went out. Another fond memory that comes to mind is going to the family house in Long Island over Easter Break with Jean and Guy working for their dad's pool company. We actually worked on Billy Joel's pool. In closing, I have not seen Jean since 2016. Talked with him a few times after that. Our friendship was one of a kind. May he rest in peace. My deepest condolences to his family. ~Scott Slade

RIP John. I will always remember refereeing some of John´s many judo matches.
A fierce competitor and a superb technician, John was a credit to his club and the rest of the judo community, as well as a gentleman.

Dear Ginny and Randy,
I'm so sorry to hear of your loss. I'll always remember John in his judo gi, one of the most talented of the judo "kids" at the Smithtown YMCA. My sincere condolences to you and your family.
