Jean Elizabeth Lupfer passed away on January 13, 2024. She was born on August 15, 1933.
Jean was known for her love of children, cats, and good southern cooking. She loved her home and treasured her grandchildren.
She was born in Dallas, Texas and grew up in Denver City, a small town in western Texas. Her mother died when she was 10 years old, and when she was 15, her older half-sister Pauline and husband Louis Kucera adopted her with her father's blessing. They brought her with them to the Aleutian Islands and then New York for a short time, until she returned to Denver City to finish high school with her life-long friends.
She met and married her first husband Rene Dennis Gregoire, in Austin, Texas in 1952. She loved the adventure of being an Air Force wife and mother living in Texas, Vermont, England, Alaska, New Mexico, Utah and Colorado. She earned an Associate's Degree in Early Childhood Education and owned a preschool in Rifle, Colorado in the 1980's. She also provided preschool and daycare services in a variety of other settings and locations over the years. She and her beloved second husband Harry Lupfer, retired in Colorado Springs and travelled throughout the country.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry M. Lupfer; her daughter, Karen Adams; her parents, Jesse J. Newman and Pryscilla Scoggins; her adoptive parents, Louis A. Kucera and Pauline Bartlett (also her sister); and her sister, Marie Newman.
She is survived by her daughter, Jeanine Colburn; her sons, Dennis Gregoire (Lisa) and Mark Gregoire (Mindy); her grandchildren, Matthew Colburn, Daniel Colburn, Allison Colburn (John Witthaus), Michael Gregoire (Caroline), Christopher Gregoire (Angelica), Andrew Gregoire (Julie), Amanda Melcher (Peter), Dacia Coddington (Eric), Destiny Adams, Caden Gregoire; her step-grandson Broc East (Sarah); and her great-grandchildren, Dylan Melcher, Liam Melcher, Amelia Melcher, Max Coddington, Wes Coddington, Hadley Gregoire, Leo Gregoire, Charlie Gregoire, Richard Gregoire, Addison East and Autumn East.
