Jean Lythgoe Obituary

Jean Frances Bond Lythgoe, born on October 22, 1941, in Phoenix, Arizona, passed away on March 12, 2025, at age 83, in Idaho Falls, Idaho, succumbing to the effects of age.

She was the 4th child to D. LeRoy Bond and Pearl Willis Bond. She came home to two sisters, Donna and Marilyn, and a brother, Donald LeRoy (Buzz). Soon, three more children were added making seven kids: Jerald, Linda, and Larry. Her father nicknamed her Jeannie with the light brown hair, and it became her preferred name throughout her life.

Jeannie was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served as a Temple ordinance worker for many years in both Billings and Idaho Falls. Gary and Jeannie lived and raised their family in Billings for 38 years before moving to Idaho Falls in 2002. She celebrated her 62nd wedding anniversary with Gary this past November. Jeannie was known for her life of service. Her family remembers her as someone who laughed easily and often.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Gary Lythgoe, who passed away on Thanksgiving, 2024. Jeannie is also preceded in death by her parents, LeRoy and Pearl Bond; her siblings, Donna, Marilyn, Jerry, and Larry; her nephew, Brian Plumb; and her grandson, Brandon Lythgoe.

She is survived by her siblings, Linda Church and Buzz Bond, both of Arizona; and by sons, Derek (Janet) Lythgoe of Gilbert, Arizona, Kyle (Rhonda) Lythgoe of Whitewood, South Dakota, Dean (Cecilia) Lythgoe of Cedar Hills, Utah, and Chad (Dawna) Lythgoe of Woods Cross, Utah; daughters, Jill (Monte) Williams of Kimberly, Idaho and Charrise (Stefan) Bateman of Rigby, Idaho; along with 21 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, and one on the way.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 29, 2025, at the Idaho Falls Stake Center, 1155 1st Street, with President Brian Schultz officiating. A viewing and an opportunity to visit with family will be offered from 1-1:45 p.m. prior to services. Burial will be in the Annis-Little Butte Cemetery immediately following the funeral.

Condolences may be sent to the family through Wood Funeral Home's website (www.woodfuneralhome.com).

I think Jeannie and I were about 8 and 9 years old when our big brothers met in Groom Creek, near Prescott, where both our families had cabins. Paul and Buzz got their little sisters together to play. I was thrilled to have another girl to play with because the family closest to our cabin had 4 boys. Jeannie and I became lifetime friends...every summer we had so much fun. I have so many memories of having a summer friend I could depend on every year. As we got a little older we went to dances and activities at her church and played Canasta with my grandmother who stayed with my brother and me during the summers until our folks came for the weekends. As a teenager, I remember going to Mesa from Glendale on a Greyhound bus to spend the weekend with the Bond family ... only once. But it is another wonderful memory. We both let our hair grow long and enjoyed being teenagers during the late 50's: dances, ball games, movies, playing SO many games of cards and just being together with the other girls from the area of her cabin. I loved her Mom and Dad and all her siblings. A few months ago, I got the surprise of my life when she called me to tell me about losing her husband. I had lost mine the year before. We only got to chat for a short time because I was just getting ready to go to a movie with friends from church so we promised to call again...I'm sad I didn't do it that weekend...time just seems to get away from you so easily. I know someday I'll get to see her again and meet Gary and introduce her to my Steve. Until then, I'll never forget her smile, zany personality and true friendship, keeping in touch through all these years by Christmas letters. Oh, the memories...

I loved my Aunt Jeannie very much. I remember a special time when she was visiting mom and dad and she came out of the bedroom and she said that bed sure sucks you in we laughed and I knew it did because we used to sleep there when we would visit mom and dad it was just she was so much fun to be around her with her laughter! She will be so missed by many. I´m especially grateful that she´s with her spouse again uncle Gary, and other siblings instead of passed before her and family. Love you and see you again someday Aunt Jeannie.

My precious Jeannie. I am so very grateful for both you and Gary. I am so happy that you are now in the arms of your best friend. I love you both and I will miss you. You taught me so much through your example of how to love others as Jesus Christ does. You have blessed my life and touched my heart and spirit more than you will ever know. I cherish our friendship. Please give yourself and Gary a big hug from me and all of us. Until we meet again, keep smiling and laughing and sharing the gospel with everyone. Love you forever my beautiful friend.
With all my love, Eilene Page & Family

"Hello my dear" this is the way I greeted my mother everytime we called each other. It was a fun memory we shared together from the days we had a paper route together. We each laughed everytime we said it. Those early mornings together were special. I needed money and a job and so did she, so we did it together. That pretty much sums up all our memories...we each needed something and we were there for each other. Her more than me. She was the perfect mother. Rest in peace...NOT. she is busy as ever with her eternal companion and serving again. Love you for always mom

I have known Jeannie for years. Know them from church. She was so loving and giving. She invited me to their house for dinner many times. We had many conversations and laughter. Visited them when they lived Idaho Falls as well. I kept touch on phone calls. I love her so much and will miss our visits on the phone. I know I will see her again in Heaven. Until we meet again, I love you, Jeannie, my friend

Sister Lythgoe had such a HUGE part in my life. She was my wonderful Merrie Miss teacher. We always had such fun at her home making so many little crafts. After we moved away from Billings to New Mexico she still kept in contact with my mom and dad, Jim and Betty Haire. After many years she attended the sealing of my husband and I in the Idaho Falls temple, it was the best surprise ever. She always had a great hug and a smile for me. She will be missed by many.

I have known Jeannie and Gary for 44 years, and were great friends. Had many visits and dinners and lots of laughter. So many memories and lots of love. My last great memory was staying in a cabin at Red Lodge, MT. It was so much fun. Gary was being funny so much like he always did. Jeannie laughed at him a lot or made a funny comment about what he said. Jeannie was so loving and caring for others. She was always serving others all the time. She had so much love in her heart. She also liked to joke around and laughed. I will miss you so much, my friend, but I will see you and Gary again. There will lots of hugs. Until we meet again, know I love so much.

I´m sorry to hear this about my dear friend Jeannie. I know she´s probably happy to be with her beloved husband, parents (oh how I loved them) and other family members. Jeannie and I grew up in the same ward, went to school together, spent our fun summers together at our cabins in Groom Creek, Arizona. She is everything you said about her and more in the obituary. Give the family our love.

I won the parent lottery. My life with my parents gave me a significant advantage. I always knew I was loved. Losing both parents in four months has been rough, but thankfully I have been shown how to handle hard situations, look for the positive, have faith,
pray often, and find reasons to laugh. Thanks Mom and Dad. Till we meet again. There is peace in Christ.
