Charlton: Jean R. (Berthiaume) Mackowiak, 84, passed away on Monday, Sept. 1st, in the Overlook Masonic Healthcare Center, Charlton, after a battle with Alzheimer's disease.

Her husband of 29 years, Charlie Mackowiak, passed away in 2017. Her first husband, Rodolph L. Peck, passed away in 1987. She was predeceased by her brother, Roland Berthiaume and her three sisters, Irene Moronge, Mary Alice Proulx and Rachel Arel. She was also predeceased by her niece, Deborah Serrano-Gatzke, who was Jean's former caregiver.

Jean was born in Southbridge the daughter of Napoleon and Beatrice (Lafleche) Berthiaume.

Jean worked in payroll at the American Optical Co. in Southbridge for many years, retiring many years ago. She previously worked at Southbridge Savings Bank (now Cornerstone Bank).

Jean and Charlie lived in North Port, FL for several years after retiring. She loved the time spent there and the many close friends they made there.

Jean was a sweet, kind and giving person and took care of everyone. She loved her family and friends deeply and always greeted everyone with a warm smile, Jean loved going out to dinner with the girls and spending time with her favorite people. She will always be remembered for her sweet and loving ways.

Jean's funeral services and burial will be private. There are no calling hours.

The Daniel T. Morrill Funeral Home, 130 Hamilton St., Southbridge, is directing arrangements.
