Jean Shaffer, 96, Nevada, MO, passed away on Monday, September 1, 2025, at Nathan Richard Health Care Center in Nevada. Jean was born July 14, 1929, in Syracuse, KS to William Jay and Cloma Ora (Kingsley) Pyle. She was united in marriage to Richard David Shaffer.

Jean was raised in California and graduated from Long Beach High School. In 1963 Jean moved to Nevada to be near her parents. Following her move to Nevada, she managed Bob's Shoe Warehouse for many years. Jean was a longtime member of the Community Christian Church in Nevada. She also enjoyed being involved in other various organizations including volunteering at the Nevada Senior Center, and ARMS (Joplin Prison Outreach) for a number of years.

Survivors include three daughters, Becky Miera, Columbia, MO, Peggy Shafer (Monty Sangl), Nevada, and Pixie Smith, Nevada; two step-children, Daivd Shaffer, Bismark, ND, and Patty Schiller, Marysville, WA; five grandchildren, Garrett Thompson, Sarah Miera (Aaron), Tiffany Pommier (Michael), Kirsten Smith (Zach), and Tristan Smith (Katherine); great-grandchildren, Natalie Pommier, Eleanor Pommier, Elliott Pommier, Brady Carter and Chloe Thompson; a sister-in-law, Margaret Pyle; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; a granddaughter, Jessica Thompson; three brothers, William Pyle, Jr., Robert Pyle, and Donald Pyle; and was also preceded by her best friend from California, Esther Sanchez.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, September 5, 2025 at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada. Interment will follow in Newton Burial Park. The family will receive friends from 5-7:00 p.m. on Thursday evening at the funeral home.

Memorials are suggested in her name to Vernon County Cancer Relief c/o Ferry Funeral Home.
