Ms. Jean Marie Sumlin, age 81, of Rocky Mount, North Carolina transitioned on June 18, 2025.
Ms. Jean Marie Sumlin was born on October 23, 1943. Jean entered eternal rest on Wednesday, June 18, 2025 in Rocky Mount, North Carolina.
Jean worked for many years at Rocky Mount Mills and Hardee's Food Systems. Jean never met a stranger. Everyone in Rocky Mount knew her or knew of her. She was most known for laughing and cutting up with you. She would often sit on her porch and in her living room and just enjoy laughing with friends and family. Jean found joy in helping others, whether through quiet acts of service, words of encouragement, or simply lending a listening ear. Her home was always filled with laughter and the comforting presence of someone who truly cared.
Jean's strength and grace were an inspiration, and she faced life's challenges with courage and faith. We are rejoicing in the fact that she is with our Father in Heaven. Jean was a member of Greater Mount Hermon Baptist Church in Rocky Mount, NC.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, two sisters, and one daughter, Beverly Sumlin.
She leaves to cherish her memories: two daughters, Tonya Sumlin and Rhonda Sumlin; one son, Demetrius Sumlin. Seven grandchildren, Montrell Sumlin, Demetrius Sumlin, Tonasia Ransome, Akquan Sumlin, Tonoki Sumlin, McKelia Jenkins, Jakelia Jenkins; four great grandchildren, Takari Sumlin, Jionni Greene, MaKiya Sumlin and Nehemiah Sumlin; siblings Lilly Mae Cherry, Helen Arrington, Christine Parker, Patricia Harrison, Zollie Silver; one special niece, Lois Pearce and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
A Visitation will be held for Mrs. Sumlin on Friday, June 27, 2025 from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm at Greater Mount Hermon Baptist Church, 801 Branch Street, Rocky Mount, North Carolina. Funeral services will follow the visitation beginning at 12:30 pm. Interment will immediately follow the service in the Impact Pointe Cemetery in Rocky Mount, North Carolina.
These professional services have been entrusted to H.D. Pope Funeral Home, located at 325 Nash Street in Rocky Mount, NC.
