Jean Uhle Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Roberson Funeral Home & Crematory - Port Charlotte on Sep. 12, 2024.
Jean Marie Uhle, 94, was called home to our Lord on Saturday, September 7, 2024, peacefully in her sleep. She was one month shy of her 95th birthday.
Born October 7, 1929, in Sunbury, Pennsylvania., Jean was a unique and caring individual who touched the lives of all who knew her. She was gregarious, animated, engaging, and fun. It was impossible not to love her.
Jean grew up in Gladwyne Pa, where she graduated from Lower Merion High School and met her husband of fifty years, Henry W. Uhle III. They married in 1949, and Jean raised four devoted children, who all concur that she was the best mom ever. She was loving, supportive, and very tolerant. She treasured her husband, children and their families more than anything else. Her life as a nurse ran a close second. Jean graduated from Bryn Mawr Hospital School of Nursing and became a Registered Nurse, her dream since childhood. She loved nursing, spending several decades as a surgical nurse at the Underwood Hospital in Woodbury NJ then the VA Hospital in Philadelphia, where she retired at age 60. But she was not ready to be done with nursing and promptly returned as a volunteer until her mid-80's!
For years, Jean, along with Henry, enthusiastically attended country music concerts at the Valley Forge Music Hall, often enjoying front row seats and top country stars. After he passed on in 1999, Jean spent much free time playing bridge at the Senior Center in Washington Township NJ, where she gained many special friends. Often, she and her girlfriends would head to Atlantic City to take in a show and play the slots (with a limit, of course). She even found love again with a new friend, Harry, who became her trustworthy companion for years, until she moved to Florida. An avid football fan, Jean loved her Eagles ("sack Dak!"). She was beyond thrilled when the Eagles finally won a Super Bowl!
Jean was quite the traveler too, going on long vacations to Jamaica, Costa Rica, Hawaii, Bermuda, Alaska and Italy to name a few. In Costa Rica, she even ziplined multiple times at age 76! She also started painting, and given constant compliments on her artwork, she often wondered if perhaps she could have been an accomplished artist instead. But no, she could never regret being a nurse. In her 90's, Jean moved to southwest Florida to enjoy warm sunny days with her eldest daughter and son-in-law. She had a great time, felt endlessly young, and life was good. Jean was also a faithful Catholic and proud American (and said so).
Jean was preceded in death by her parents, E. William and Helen Reinhart; brothers, G. Richard (Dick) and William (Bill) Reinhart; her husband; and son, Henry W. (Chip) Uhle IV. She is survived by her sister, Lenora Carter; her sister-in-law, Shirley Reinhart; her children, Jeannette Johnson (husband, James), Kathryn Gass (husband, Matthew), and Charles Uhle (wife, Kathleen); grandchildren, Michael (wife, Angela), Deborah, and Bethany Uhle, Kristen, Matthew, and Kaitlyn Gass, Matthew Johnson (wife, Mindy) and Mandy Proper; and great-grandchildren, Austin, Ethan, Makayla, Kaitlyn, Melana and new-born Makai.
