On May 16, 2025, Jean Sadrac Vernet, passed away at the age of 98 at his home in Stamford, CT surrounded by his loved ones.
Jean Sadrac was born on June 20, 1927 in the Coq Chante area of Jacmel, Haiti to Julie Lucas and Letoy Vernet. At the age of 12, Jean Sadrac left Leogane to move in with his sister, Ismaelle, in Port-au-Prince to make a life for himself. At the age of 19, he found a job at Ladroin, where he worked for 5 years. Eventually, Jean Sadrac moved on to work at the Administration General de Contribution for 35 years. In 1971, he fell ill and retired shortly thereafter.
Jean Sadrac Vernet was a member of the Baptist Church of Mont Jolie,Turjeau. He was a member of the choir, and ensured his children followed in his footsteps by learning and practicing the word of God. His legacy was for them to continue following Christ, which was honored by several of his children becoming pastors.
When he moved to the United States, he joined the French Speaking Baptist Church and continued to sing in the choir and participated as a member of the Hommes Missionaire, and preached in the Pelerin de la Foi.
He was a dedicated loving husband, caring father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He was a man of faith who devoted his life to serve Christ, and was always positive and encouraging. Even in the darkest of times, he trusted in God to be in control of his life.
He was predeceased by parents, Julie Lucas and Letoy Vernetand and his siblings, Evans Vernet, Emmanuel Vernet, Baudroin Vernet, Kezem Felix, Lovanna Guerrier, Veronique St. Fort.
Jean Sadrac is survived by his wife of 68 years, Gracianne Opent; children, Frantz Jean-Louis, David Vernet (Lanie), Michelle Lesperance (Serge), Beroth Vernet (Ketley), Vanithe Gilles (Frantz), Esther Darius (Carlos), Admartha Vernet, Jean Vernet (Viola), Alexandra Louissaint (Max), and Samuel Vernet (Marie); and 18 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, and his siblings Jean-Claude Felix, Ismaelle Loissant, Esther Mine Delecieux.
He leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends, and he will be greatly missed.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, May 31st from 8am to 10am at French Speaking Baptist Church, 28 Adams Avenue, Stamford, CT. A Funeral Service will begin at 10am at the Church. Interment will follow at Woodland Cemetery, 66 Woodland Place, Stamford, CT.
