Jean Wilkins Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Lacy Funeral Home on Mar. 5, 2025.
Jean Ellen Wilkins, whose name means "God is gracious," beautifully reflected her good nature, passed away peacefully on March 2, 2025, at the age of 85. Born on September 20, 1939, in Paris, Kentucky, to the late William J. and Thelma Lee Crump, she was a woman whose life was marked by love, sacrifice, and devotion.
On January 28, 1961, Jean married the love of her life, Robert (Bob) Wilkins, and together they raised five children. The age gaps between her children were considerable, but Jean's love and commitment to her family never wavered. Even while managing a household, she found the energy to work part-time and even babysat additional children, always putting the needs of others before her own.
As her older children grew and left home, Jean embraced a new chapter in her life by taking a full-time position in admissions at Stephenville Hospital. It was a job she loved, and she often spoke about how fulfilling it was to meet so many kind and wonderful people over the years. She also deeply appreciated her wonderful neighbors, who provided support and kindness during her later years. Jean was truly grateful for their help and companionship.
Jean had a deep and abiding love for camping. In her free time, she relished traveling across the United States, towing a trailer and creating memories with friends, family, and especially her children and grandchildren. For Jean, camping wasn't just an activity-it was a source of great joy and the perfect way to spend time with those she cherished most.
Despite raising five children, Jean never lost sight of the needs of others. She was dedicated to supporting several charitable organizations, always finding ways to give back to those less fortunate. She believed in helping others and making a difference wherever she could.
Jean was a gifted storyteller with a memory that could recall the most vivid details, making her tales come alive. Her sharp wit, paired with her infectious laughter and radiant smile, brightened every room she entered. Humor came naturally to her, and as a fan of "The Carol Burnett Show," she appreciated the joy that laughter brought.
Jean Ellen Wilkins was a remarkable woman whose legacy of love, kindness, and laughter will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. Her story is one of grace, devotion, and joy, and she will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to call her family or friend.
She is survived by daughters, Darlene Daniel and husband, Robert of Fort Worth, Sandy Bostock and husband, Mark of Stephenville; sons, Scott Wilkins and wife, Angie of Pflugerville, Texas, Roger Wilkins of Manchester, Ohio; sister, Rebecca Ingram, of San Angelo, Texas, brother, Richard Crump of Westerville, Ohio; six grandchildren; and fourteen great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her late husband, Robert, April 10, 2012, and son, Daniel Glen Wilkins, on January 5, 2007.
The family will be holding a private service to honor the memory and life of their beloved mother, Jean, and to reflect on the impact she had on those who knew her.
