Jean Marion Wormuth, 97, of Cobleskill passed away on July 30, 2024 at Robinson Terrace Nursing Home where she had been a resident for the past several years.
Jean was born in Tarrytown, NY on October 5th, 1926, to George Raymond Baker and Eleanor Sophia Gerken.
Jean attended North Tarrytown Elementary and High School, was a member of the National Honor Society, and graduated in 1943. She went on to attend Geneseo State Teachers College and graduated from there with a bachelor's degree in library science. She taught Elementary Library in Batavia, NY. From there she came to Cobleskill and was the librarian at Cobleskill High School. Afterward, she became a floating librarian for Cobleskill, Richmondville, and Jefferson schools in Schoharie County under the BOCES Program.
Jean was a stamp collector and loved traveling the country with her husband, Harold, in their Holiday Rambler and especially loved camping in Maine. She was a member of the Lawyersville Reformed Church. She served on the consistory as an elder and deacon as well as taught High School Sunday School classes. Jean was a member of the choir and secretary of the Lawyersville Reformed Church Women's Ministries for many years. She was also a member of the New Century Club in Cobleskill.
Jean and her husband, Harold, were married in the Lishakill Reformed Church in Schenectady, NY on February 18, 1950. Harold predeceased Jean in 1989.
She was also predeceased by her sister, Shirley Frances Borden; brothers-in-law: Jack Borden, Bill Wormuth, and Edwin Wolfe; sister-in-law, Cathy Wolfe, and nephew, John Wormuth
Jean is survived by her nephews: Robert C. Borden of College Station, TX, Gary Wolfe of Culpepper, VA, Mark Wolfe of Napels, NY, Jerome Wormuth, Jeffrey Wormuth, and James Wormuth.
In lieu of flowers, Jean requested that donations be made to the Animal Shelter of Schoharie Valley INC. PO Box 40, Howes Cave NY 12092.
A graveside service will be held Tuesday, August 6, 2024 at Cobleskill Rural Cemetery at 10:30 AM with Rev. Paul Ferenczy officiating.
Services have been entrusted to the Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home, 171 Elm St., Cobleskill. Online condolences may be offered to the family at www.merenessputnamfuneralhome.com.
