Jeanadus "JR" Rockefeller Denton, known affectionately as JR to his friends and family, passed away on November 26, 2025, at the age of 82. Born on July 8, 1943, in Franklin Co., North Carolina, JR was a man whose life was defined by his dedication to his work, his love for the great outdoors, and the unwavering care he had for his family.
JR was preceded in death by his loving parents, Hettie and Buster Denton, and his sisters, Emma Rose Straughan, Dee Mitchell, and Beatrice Noland. He leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories with his children, Wayne (Amy) Denton, Cassandra Denton Craft, and Mark (Deanne) Denton; his brother, Richard (Gail) Denton; his sisters, Frances Bass and Helen Edwards; his treasured grandchild, Hunter Denton; and numerous nieces and nephews, all of whom will miss him deeply.
For over four decades, JR applied his skills as a mechanic at Capital Ford, where he was not only known for his exceptional work but also for his camaraderie and mentorship. His colleagues respected him for his expertise and his willingness to lend a hand whenever needed. JR's retirement was celebrated by many who recognized the significant contributions he made to the automotive industry throughout his long and distinguished career.
JR's passion for life extended beyond his professional endeavors. An avid deer hunter, he found peace and joy in the quiet of the woods, a testament to his adventurous spirit. His love for hunting was matched only by his love for his family, with whom he shared his knowledge and respect for nature.
Those who knew JR would describe him as a man who was not only handy and kind but also someone who embraced life's adventures with enthusiasm and courage. His hands, always ready to fix what was broken, were equally as ready to offer comfort and support. His kind demeanor and willingness to help others left a lasting impact on everyone he met.
JR's life was a tapestry of hard work, adventure, and most importantly, love. As we say farewell to this remarkable man, we are reminded of the joy he brought to our lives and the quiet strength he demonstrated in every endeavor. His memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved him, and his stories will continue to inspire us for generations to come.
