Jeanard, beloved father, grandfather, and cherished friend, passed away peacefully at his home in Opelousas, Louisiana, on November 19, 2025, at the age of 82. Born on December 16, 1942, in Mamou, Louisiana, Jeanard lived a life filled with love, dedication, and community service.
A distinguished career as a Laboratory Technician spanned over four decades, with Jeanard serving the Opelousas Medical Center for 15 years and subsequently contributing 29 years to Ville Platte General Hospital. His professional journey began after graduating from Vidrine High School in 1961, followed by his training at Gradwhol School of Laboratories in St. Louis, Missouri. At the age of 69, he retired from the Ville Platte Hospital Laboratory, leaving behind a legacy of dedication and expertise in his field.
Jeanard proudly served in the United States Navy, an experience that shaped his character and instilled in him values of discipline and commitment. He was known as a very loving person, someone who never met a stranger and made friends wherever he went. His warm spirit and kindness endeared him to many.
Beyond his professional life, Jeanard had a wide array of interests and hobbies. He expressed his creativity through woodworking and found joy in spending quality time with his family, particularly his children and grandchildren. Fishing and camping were among his favorite pastimes, where he created treasured memories with his loved ones. Jeanard also enjoyed visiting the casino, which added a sense of adventure to his life.
His proudest accomplishments included raising his children alongside the love of his life, Berna Deshotel, who has preceded him in death. Jeanard deeply valued family and was particularly devoted to his sons: Anthony Deshotel and his wife Janice of Livingston, Brian Deshotel, and Chad Deshotel, both of Lafayette. He was also a loving grandfather to his six grandchildren, Bryce, Andrew, Nicholas, Catherine, Hannah, and Jessica. who will carry forward his legacy of love and kindness.
Jeanard is survived by his sons and grandchildren, who will remember him not just for his steadfast support and guidance but for the love that he unconditionally shared throughout his life. He is reunited in spirit with his loving wife, Berna, and his parents, Hampton and Hattie Fontenot Deshotel.
As we remember Jeanard Deshotel, we honor a life well-lived—a life marked by love for his family, commitment to his community, and a genuine connection with everyone he encountered. His memory will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of those who knew him.
