Joseph Anthony "Mr. Joe" Deshotel, a beloved resident of Reddell, Louisiana, passed away on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, in Mamou, Louisiana at the age of 86. Born on Thursday, August 3, 1939, Mr. Joe dedicated over 16 years of his life to being the owner of Joe's Slaughterhouse, where he made a lasting impact on his community. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, October 11, 2025 at St. Ann Catholic Church at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow in the New St. Ann Cemetery with Father Billy Massie conducting services.
Mr. Joe was well-known for his warmth, generosity, and hard work. He cherished spending time with family and friends, often enjoying gatherings around card games, cooking at the camp, and sharing a few beers. These moments created cherished memories that will be fondly remembered by all who knew him.
Joseph Anthony "Mr. Joe" Deshotel will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. His legacy of kindness, love for family, and community spirit will continue to inspire those left behind.
Mr. Joe is survived by his four daughters, Cathy Soileau (Eric), Christine Venem (Rod), Janie Berzas (Johnny), and Missy Fontenot (Steve); and his son, Danny Deshotel (Roxana). He was a proud grandfather to Crystal, Alexie, Jessica, Catrina, Tasha, Chasity, Chad, Ched, Jordy, Cade, and Abbi. Additionally, Mr. Joe was blessed with 18 great-grandchildren Michelle, Aumara, Ayden, Oliver, Aubree, Abram, Issac, Ava, Gabe, Remi, Harlie, Presley, Lilly, Keegan, Kamryn, Maddi, Jase, and Gus, along with a great-great-grandchild, CJ. He also leaves behind his sister, Mary Ann Courville, brother-in-law Lettell Young and sisters-in-law Wilma Deshotels and Dianna Tate Fontenot.
Mr. Joe joins in heaven his wife, Tarrel Tate Deshotel; parents, Murphy Deshotel and Pearl Landreneau; brother, Jimmy Deshotels; sisters, Rita Fay McGee and Cecilia Pearl Young; and his grandchild, Brandon Berzas.
Visitation for Mr. Joe will be held at Ardoin's Funeral Home in Mamou, Friday, October 10, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM, and again on Saturday, October 11, from 8:00 AM until 10:30 AM. A rosary will be recited at 6:30 PM Friday.
