Jeanette Asseff, 90, of Louisville, passed away peacefully Saturday, January 18, 2025.
She was born in Louisville on March 1, 1934 to parents John and Minashy Thomas Asseff.
Jeanette was a retired teacher for JCPS for 36 years. She was a lifelong member of St. Michael Orthodox Church. She did her undergraduate studies at UK and received her master's degree at IU in Bloomington. Over the years, she held memberships in Alpha Delta Kappa (an honorary organization for teachers); both the local and state Teacher's Retirement Associations; the Compass Club and the Womens' Athletic Associations at Atherton and at UK. Jeanette was an avid UK sports fan, having been a season ticket holder for many years.
The library at Gilmore Lane Elementary School is named in her honor. Jeanette was a graduate of Atherton High School, class of 1951, graduating as part of the last all girls' class at the school.
Besides her parents, she was also preceded in death by two sisters, Nettie Shahadey and Sadie Ameen, one nephew and three nieces.
Survivors include two brothers, Edward Asseff (Frederica) and Nassem Asseff (Betty, deceased), and several nieces and nephews.
Her visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Thursday, January 23rd until the time of the funeral service at 1 p.m. Both the visitation and funeral will be held at St. Michael Orthodox Church, 3701 St. Michael Church Drive followed by burial in Evergreen Cemetery.
Expressions of sympathy may be directed to her church.
