Jeanette Whiting Bangerter
July 29, 1940 – July 9, 2024
Jeanette Whiting Bangerter 83 of Vancouver, Washington, passed away on Tuesday,
July 9, 2024, peacefully in her home with her beloved husband, Darrell, and family at her
side. Jeanette was born on July 29, 1940, in Springville, Utah to Jesse Olen and Virginia
(Bird) Whiting. At the age of four, Jeanette began to realize and develop her talents in
music. While her father was away in World War II, her mother began to teach her to play
the piano. In time, Jeanette became proficient at playing the piano and the organ. She
served as ward organist at church in several wards during her life. Jeanette was also
blessed with a beautiful singing voice and shared this talent singing in high school and
church choirs over the years. As a mother, her family was blessed living in a home filled
with the sound of her music, playing the piano and singing. Jeanette also accompanied
several local school choirs in the Tri-Cities, Washington, area. She also accompanied
the Richland Light Opera for a year.
Jeanette married Darrell Howell Bangerter on September 15, 1959, in the Logan Utah
Temple. During their life together, they lived in Provo, Utah; Lenox, Massachusetts;
Schenectady, New York; Richland, Washington; Kennewick, Washington; LaPine, Oregon
and Vancouver, Washington. Together, they had four sons and one daughter.
Jeanette enjoyed dancing with Darrell. Together, they were active square and round
dancers for about ten years with the Prairie Shufflers in Tri-Cities, Washington. This
wonderful, fun passion of theirs even took them to state and some international
festivals in British Columbia.
All of her life, Jeanette was a faithful and devoted disciple of Jesus Christ. As a
member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she served in various
capacities including ward organist, Gospel Doctrine teacher, Primary President, Relief
Society President, Stake Young Women's President and temple worker in the Portland
Oregon Temple. As a mother, she shared her faith with her children, teaching them by
example and by sharing her testimony of Jesus Christ and His gospel.
Jeanette is survived by her loving husband, Darrell, and sons Bart (Tracy) Bangerter of
Idaho Falls, Idaho; Bruce (Dianne) Bangerter of Troutdale, Oregon; Brian (Noele)
Bangerter of Beaverton, Oregon and Brad Bangerter of Leavenworth, Washington;
daughter Brenda Bangerter of Beaverton, Oregon; sister Cynthia Adams of Maple Valley,
Washington; brothers Brent Whiting of Glendale, Arizona; Mark (Nicole) Whiting of South
Jordan, Utah and Doug (Bunny) Whiting of The Woodlands, Texas; nine grandchildren
and eight great-grandchildren. Jeanette was preceded in death by her parents, Jesse
Olen and Virginia Whiting.
