Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 28, 2011.
Jeanette Bastable Jeanette (Herman) Bastable entered her eternal home on Thursday, April 28, 2011. Born in Manitowoc on February 21, 1918, Jeanette grew up on the family farm. She attended Goodwin Country School and graduated from Lincoln High School. Jeanette continued to reside in the home where she was born, which has been the family homestead for the past 101 years. Jeanette was a granddaughter of the last surviving Civil War Veteran of Manitowoc County. She shared many of her grandfather’s letters, photographs and stories with family and friends. Since 2010, Jeanette served as Membership Coordinator for The Daughters of Union Veterans of the Civil War, Cordelia A.P. Harvey Tent #21. She was also a long time member of Manitowoc County Homemakers Club. Jeanette had a great love of dogs, raising Harlequin Great Danes in the 1950s and later Lhasa Apsos. For nearly thirty years, Jeanette and her husband, Edward, hosted an annual opening day pheasant hunt event at their property. Guest was treated to her culinary expertise with a vast array of homemade pies. Jeanette is remembered with love and respect as an outstanding woman of strength, fortitude, intelligence and loyalty; raising her children with character, love, and ambition. Her sharp mind and quick wit were prominent right up to the moment of her passing. Surviving members of her family include one son: Chad (Linda) Bastable, Wausau; three daughters: Adrienne (Marvin) Ludwig, Manitowoc; Debi (David) Plekan, Hulett, WY; Tami (Phil Vanden Heuvel) Aubry, Appleton; ten grandchildren: William (Lori) Ludwig and Lisa (Jepp) Johnson, Goodyear, AZ; William (Sandy) Bastable Jr., Virginia Beach, VA; Jackie (Brian) Brennan, Valders; Kyle, Caitlyn and Ryan Bastable, Wausau; Jordan Aubry, Highland Park, NJ; Ross Aubry, Chilton; Reid Aubry, Appleton; Michael Angus, Albuquerque, NM; and 12 great-grandchildren.
