Jeanette Herr Dambach, 96, of Wilmington, Delaware passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, April 6, 2025. Born into a large family on a farm in Millersville, Pennsylvania on May 28, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Rudolph and Fannie (Brubaker) Herr. Jeanette was employed part-time with both the Pleasant Hills Drive-in Theater and Pleasant Hills Bowling Lanes where she made many friends. She was a very outgoing, sociable person who entertained everyone with her wide range of jokes. Jeanette also enjoyed her daily breakfasts at McDonald's for many years, where she connected with the morning coffee group and staff. Always meticulous about her appearance, especially her bright coral lipstick, she was a talented cook and baker who took great pride in preparing meals for her family as well as having friends join her for coffee. Jeanette made the best Christmas cookies and shared them with everyone she knew. Her house embodied the spirit of Christmas with the most beautifully adorned trees and many holiday decorations. From a young age, Jeanette also became interested in antiques and crafts, and her many collections were creatively displayed throughout their home. Her devoted husband, Kenneth L. Dambach, who passed away on November 2, 2012, helped her with the shopping and whatever she needed to make their home warm and inviting. Sadly, she was also predeceased by her son, Jeffrey K. Dambach on January 21, 2013, and many dear friends.
Jeanette is survived by her caring son and daughter-in-law, Gregory and Donna Dambach, who were a great help to her during her final years; her daughter-in-law, Diane Dambach; her grandsons, Jeffrey Dambach and Jake Dambach; and her youngest sister, Bonnie Huth, as well as many members of the extended Herr family. Nine of her siblings, Eugene, Carl "Richard", Elvin, Jay, Earl, James, Alta, Dorothy and Frances have all predeceased her.
Jeanette's passing marks the end of a generation of friends and family who lived when times were simpler, during which many moms were fortunate to be able to spend more time at home with their children and neighbors, a time when friendships were formed that lasted a lifetime. Jeanette was at the center of many activities and was always there to support someone who needed help or a meal. She will be remembered by all as a fun, friendly and generous person.
Family and friends are invited to visit at the Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Road, Pike Creek on Monday, April 14 from 11:30AM – 12:30PM. Funeral services will begin at 12:30PM, immediately followed by interment at Gracelawn Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Jeanette may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude’s Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or the Arthritis Foundation, P.O. Box 96280, Washington, DC 20077.
