Jeanette R. Maddox, born on April 4, 1933, in
Hondo, Texas, passed away on March 17, 2026, in
San Antonio, Texas surrounded by her loving family. She lived a long and meaningful life marked by devotion to her family, her students, her faith, and the many people whose lives she touched with kindness, patience, and grace.
Jeanette was born to Alice Brucks and Joe E. Roberts and carried fond memories of her early years on the farm in Hondo, where she enjoyed time with her cousins and the simple joys of childhood. Because her father, Lt. Col. Joe E. Roberts, served in the Air Force, she lived in many states and attended many schools, experiences that helped shape her adaptability, resilience, and appreciation for the many places and people she encountered along the way.
She later attended Trinity University, where she earned her bachelor's degree in education and met her husband, Robert L. Maddox. Jeanette and Robert settled in Helotes, Texas, and built a life together as they raised their four children, Mark, Bruce, Sherri, and Scott. Their home was one filled with love, guidance, and steady support, and Jeanette devoted herself fully to her role as wife and mother.
Jeanette became a teacher and spent 30 years teaching at John Marshall High School, where she was deeply committed to her students and to the profession she loved. She spent countless hours preparing lessons, grading papers, tutoring students, and helping with the Spanish club. Her dedication went far beyond the classroom, as she cared about each student's success and well-being. She was the kind of teacher who made a lasting difference, and many will remember her for her encouragement, her patience, and her genuine concern for others.
Above all, Jeanette was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She supported her family at athletic events, school activities, and every important moment of life. She was always there to listen, to help, and to offer comfort whenever it was needed. Her family knew they could depend on her, and her presence brought strength and reassurance to those she loved most. She took great pride in her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and her love for them was steadfast and unconditional.
Jeanette was a Christian whose faith was an important part of her life. She carried herself with quiet strength and a spirit of compassion that reflected the values she held dear. She was also an avid reader and loved traveling, especially with her sister, Edith, and her husband, George Bou. These times brought her joy and created cherished memories that her family will hold close forever.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Alice Brucks and Joe E. Roberts, her husband, Robert L. Maddox, her sister, Edith Bou, and her son, Mark Maddox. She is survived by her children, Bruce Maddox, Sherri Murrah and her husband Bob, and Scott Maddox; her grandchildren, Jason Maddox, Jacob Maddox, Domini Maddox, Deena Maddox, Blake Maddox Heather Stickler and her husband Brock, Stacie and her husband Jaxon Salinas, Justin Murrah, and Tamra Maddox; and numerous great-grandchildren.
Jeanette R. Maddox will be remembered for her devotion, her warmth, her intelligence, and the deep love she gave so freely to her family and friends. Her legacy lives on in the lives she shaped, the lessons she taught, and the many hearts she touched. She was dearly loved, and she will be missed beyond measure, always held in the hearts of those who knew and cherished her.
There will be a graveside service on April 20th at 11am at Fort Sam Cemetery, shelter 1.
