Jeanette Shearer Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Pine View Mortuary - Saint George on Sep. 13, 2025.
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of Jeanette Marie Shearer who passed away peacefully at home in St. George, Utah on September 8, 2025. She was born in Cincinnati, Ohio on August 25, 1937 to Carmen Corrado and Angela Muccino Corrado, being their only child.

She grew up in Bellevue, Kentucky, graduating from Newport Catholic High School in 1955. As a young girl, Jeanie loved to spend time at the Tacoma Pool in Dayton, Kentucky, swimming with her friends and many cousins. Some of her most favorite things to do were playing on the banks of the Ohio River and riding the Shooting Star Roller Coaster at Coney Island Amusement Park.

Jeanie was proud of her Italian heritage. She loved her family parties with her large extended family. Italian Day at Coney Island was always a fun event she looked forward to every year. She had the biggest, brightest smile and laugh that won everyone's hearts. She made friends easily and liked to call everyone "honey".

On June 23, 1956, she married a childhood friend Barry Edmund Shearer in the Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church in Bellevue, Kentucky. They welcomed three children Michael Scott, a daughter Michelle Lynn and son Marc Tobin.

Jeanie's husband Barry was a traveling salesman, and she spent many years moving with her family and supporting his career. They loved visiting many historic sites on their travels. Her hobbies included golf and bowling. She was also noted for her dancing skills and loved to go to the nightclubs where she could dance the night away.

She loved football season and being able to watch her beloved Cincinnati Bengals play. Watching professional golf tournaments on TV was always a weekend activity. She participated in many golf and bowling leagues over the years. Jeanie was a great cook specializing in homemade Italian meals. Spaghetti and meatballs and lasagna were two of her favorites. Everything was made from scratch. Jeanie was also an avid traveler and loved going on cruises with her friends.

In 1970, her family settled in Sacramento, California where she began her career with JC Penney Company working in the shoe department. In 1989, her family moved to Chico, California where she continued working for JC Penney until she retired in 2018, being 80 years old. She was instrumental in helping open the current JC Penney at the Chico Mall.

Jeanie loved her family unconditionally and supported them in all their endeavors. She especially loved her grandchildren, and they adored her as well. They always looked forward to her visits. Her family was always first and foremost in her life.

After her husband passed away in 1991 friends and family were her greatest support. Her son Marc moved in with her and watched over her in her later years. In June of 2025, she moved to St. George, Utah where she lived with her son Mike and daughter-in-law Ronda who became her full- time caregiver until her passing.

Jeanie is preceded in death by her parents Carmen and Angie Corrado, husband Barry Shearer, daughter Mickey Lynn Lotta Shields and great-grandson Jason Dale Butterfield Jr.

Jeanie is survived by her 2 sons Michael Scott Shearer (Ronda) of St. George, Utah; Marc Shearer of Chico, California; 12 grandchildren: Thomas Butterfield, Greg Butterfield, Trent Butterfield, Jason Butterfield, Lance Shearer, Jeffrey Shearer, Justina Shearer, Nick Lotta, Harley Dockins, Justin Dockins, Levi Gill and Robert Covert, as well as 22 great-grandchildren.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to the attentive staff at Enloe Hospital and Mercy Medical Center in California for their kindness after her stroke. The family is deeply grateful for the compassionate care provided by the Dixie Hospice team, whose support helped ease her final days.

Please join us for a memorial service to celebrate the life of Jeanie Shearer. We will gather together 7:00 pm, Friday, October 3, 2025 at the Pleasant Valley Baptist Church, 13539 Garner Lane, Chico, California, 95973
