Jeanne Ryan Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Papavero Funeral Home - Maspeth on Dec. 10, 2025.
Jeanne Collins Ryan, 94, of Woodside, NY and Hinsdale, MA, died on Sunday, December 7, 2025 at her home in New York. She was born on September 14, 1931, the oldest child of the late Garrett F. Collins, Sr. and Josephine Goodwin Collins and raised in Hinsdale. She was a class of 1949 graduate of St Joseph High School in Pittsfield, MA and a 1952 graduate of Teachers College Columbia University, where she earned a bachelor's of science degree. She attended Mount Sinai Hospital School of Nursing where she received her RN.
She worked as a staff nurse for the Hanover Bank in Manhattan, a medical-surgical nurse at Boulevard Hospital, in Astoria, NY, and in the neonatal intensive care unit at St John's Hospital in Elmhurst, NY. She retired from nursing in 1997.
She was a parishioner of St. Mary's Help of Christian's parish in Woodside. Mrs. Ryan was an avid reader, world traveler, dog lover and proud mother and grandmother. She loved nothing more than to be sitting on her porch surrounded by her children and grandchildren and hearing all about what was happening in their lives. She loved a good movie, wartime romance being her favorite genre. Going out to dinner was always a good idea. She loved everything from The Red Lion Inn and Le Boucherie West Village to IHOP and the local diner. She always said that making plans and having things to look forward to kept her feeling young and engaged with the world. Her bucket list of going white water rafting, riding in a hot air balloon, flying a plane (albeit a flight simulator) and seeing all of her grandchildren become successful, well educated adults, were all checked off. The pride she felt for her family was immeasurable.
Mrs. Ryan is survived by her children, Joseph J. Ryan, Jr. and Heather of Hamilton, MA, Garrett C. Ryan and Ingrid of Woodside, NY, Susan R. Gallo and Thomas of Floral Park, NY, and Christopher Ryan of Woodside, NY, her grandchildren Ashley V. Ryan, Samantha R. Gallo, Katherine J. Ryan, Kristina E. Gallo, Valerie A. Ryan, Connor V. Ryan, Alexa V. Gallo, and Garrett C Ryan, Jr., her brother Philip G. Collins of Hinsdale, MA, her niece Dawn M. Collins and her nephew Michael G. Collins. She was predeceased by her husband, Joseph J. Ryan, Sr. and her brother Garrett F. Collins, Jr.
