Jeanne Stanton Obituary

Jeanne E. Stanton May 30, 2022 Jeanne E. Stanton, age 71, life resident of Altmar, finally arrived at her home in heaven on Monday, May 30, 2022. She passed away at St. Luke Faxton Hospital in Utica after a long illness, with her husband and children by her side. Jeanne was born November 4, 1950, in Oswego, the daughter of Willard and Frances Jacobs Ellis. Jeanne grew up, the youngest of three children, on her family's dairy farm, Riverview Farm in Altmar. She enjoyed following her dad around, swimming in the Salmon River and helping in the barn. As a teen, Jeanne enjoyed playing sports, playing the clarinet in marching band and playing the piano at church, starting at 12 years old and continuing until January 2022. As she grew, Jeanne prayed to God that he would send her a man as wonderful as her father, Willard. Jeanne met Cregg in high school and as they were dating, she asked God for a sign that he was the one. She looked down on the ground and saw a nickel. She picked it up and handed it to Cregg saying, "There is my sign. I am buying you for a nickel." Jeanne was married to Cregg Stanton on September 19, 1970 and enjoyed the most dedicated and beautiful love affair for nearly 52 years. Jeanne graduated from APW High School in 1968, earned her Associates from OCC and earned her bachelor's and master's degrees from SUNY Oswego. She went back to college as a non-traditional student showing her children and family that they could do anything they wanted to. She was employed by the APW School district for 20 years, teaching 2nd and 3rd grade at Williamstown, Altmar, and Parish Elementary Schools. She was also a dental hygienist for Dr. Dunton in Pulaski for several years. Jeanne was a member of the Altmar Riverside Methodist Church and played her favorite hymns on the piano. Jeanne loved teaching and her family. She was quick witted with a practical sense of what life was about. She was the strongest prayer warrior and never wavered in her love and faith in God. Jeanne was active while her children were in school and volunteered on many committees. As much as she loved her children, she adored her beloved grandchildren. They were the light of her life. Surviving are her husband, Cregg, one daughter, Jennifer Stanton (Doran Edmond) of Orwell and one son, Clark (Stephanie) Stanton of Sandy Creek, six grandchildren, Riley Corcoran, Reed Corcoran, Will Corcoran, Anderson Stanton, Rowlan Stanton and Rockwell Stanton, her mother, Frances Ellis of Altmar, brother James (Sharon) Ellis of Orwell and sister in-law Cynthia Stanton of West Amboy. Jeanne was predeceased by one sister, Joyce Elaine Ellis and sister in-law, Nancy Wright. Funeral services will be held 4 p.m. Friday, June 3rd, at Foster-Hax Funeral Home, 52 Park Street, Pulaski with burial in Riverside Cemetery, Altmar. Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 p.m., Friday, prior to the funeral. My thoughts and prayers are with Jeanne's family. Jeanne was one of the first teachers that I met at APW when I was at Williamstown Elementary. We quickly became friends and enjoyed many laughs and chats together.

So very sorry for your loss. Thoughts and prayers for the family. I had Mrs. Stanton as my 3rd grade teacher in Williamstown. I remember at the end of the day she would get her big seashell and blow down the hallway for the kids to hear. It was the highlight of day. She will be missed

My condolences to the family. I fondly remember Jeanne and her lovely parents Mr. and Mrs. Ellis from school and church. I also saw Jeanne at dental appointments. I am sure she will be missed deeply by her family. A loving person.

Jeanne became one of my closest friends from our first meeting in 7th grade. During our MS & HS years, we spent many weekends at each other´s homes. I loved going to her farm, and swimming & tubing in Salmon River before it was popular. Jeanne always had a smile for everyone. After HS We lost contact until our 50th class reunion, the years disappeared with her famous smile. My heart goes out to Cregg, her children and family. Love & hugs to you Cregg.
