Jeannette Degner, 101, of La Porte, Indiana, passed away Monday, March 3, 2025, at Settlers Place in La Porte, Indiana.
She was born Sept. 3, 1923, in Michigan City, Indiana, the daughter of Carl Lueth and Ameila Adeline (Weiler) Lueth.
Jeannette graduated from Elston High School in Michigan City, class of 1942. She married Lorenz "Larry" Degner, from La Porte, who preceded her in death Jan. 11, 1997.
She embarked on a fulfilling career, beginning at 1st Federal (Fifth Third) Bank. She later transitioned to Al's Market in La Porte, working as an office manager until her retirement in 1996. Jeannette derived great joy from her professional pursuits and was known for her dedication.
After retiring, Jeannette engaged in several activities. She bowled in a senior league in La Porte, showcasing her competitive spirit and love for the sport. Her passion for games also extended to playing cards, like canasta, where she often gathered with friends. Jeannette was known for driving her older friends to events, providing companionship and support. Music and dance were also integral to her life; she loved dancing with her husband, sharing moments filled with laughter and joy.
In her personal life, Jeannette was a devoted caregiver and a loving family member. Her commitment to her family was evident in all she did, as she nurtured those around her with kindness and compassion, leaving a legacy of love that will continue through her loved ones.
She is survived by her two daughters, Susan (Archie) Stacy of Knox, Indiana, and Carla (Kirk) Newell of Bridgman, Michigan; two grandchildren, Joshua (Roxanne) Stacy and Jacob (Tiffany) Stacy; three great-grandchildren, Braelyn, Alyxandra and Irelyn Stac; and several nieces and nephews.
Jeannette was preceded in death by her loving husband of 34 years; her parents; six brothers, Carl, William, Wilbur, Wallace, Kenneth and Don Lueth; and sister, Dorothy Fischer
Arrangements are being entrusted to Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Ave., La Porte, Indiana. A Memorial Service will be held at Haverstock Funeral Home, Friday, March 14, 2025, at 11 a.m. central time with Pastor Jeff Zigler, from the First Church of God, officiating. The family will begin greeting guests at 10 a.m. Jeannette's cremated remains will be interred at Swan Lake Cemetery.
