Jearls "Carson" Arnett, 77, passed away on Sunday, March 16, 2025 at the UC Medical Center in Cincinnati, Ohio. He was born on December 8, 1947 in Magoffin County, Kentucky to the late Ann Patrick Black and Arbie Arnett.
Carson graduated from Salyersville High School in 1965 and Mayo Vocational School in auto mechanics. His love of cars led him to be a big, lifetime NASCAR fan. Carson also enjoyed working on old cars, photography, target shooting, adult coloring, reading his Bible and working jigsaw puzzles. Carson enjoyed visiting flea markets, junk stores, pawn shops and antiques. But most of all he enjoyed family gatherings, especially those hosted by his grandmother Esther better known as "Mom" to all his family.
Carson left his hometown of thirty-six years to marry the love of his life, Kathy "Earlene" Hawkins on January 15, 1983. After living one year in
Georgetown, Kentucky, they moved to Scott County's Muddy Ford area where they experienced and enjoyed country living. Country living meant dogs, cats, rabbits, and ducks, all of which grew in numbers. After purchasing acreage and building a custom home, they added horses to their love of animals.
Carson retired from Kentucky State Government in 2001 after which he met and became great friends with many other retirees in the local community by loafing at a variety of gas stations.
Carson proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps from March 1966 to March 1969 and was a member of the American Legion Post 24.
In addition to his wife, Carson is survived by a son, Robert Forest Arnett Stahl, two brothers, Timothy Clarence Black of Louisville, Kentucky and Greg Arnett of Salyersville, Kentucky, three aunts, Lou Johnson of Jeffersonville, Indiana, June (Mitchell) Crace of Chesapeake, Virginia, and Virginia Maffett of
Georgetown, Kentucky, plus a niece, Kate Elizabeth Black, and four nephews, Carson Thomas Black, Zachary Arnett, Galvin Blake Arnett, and Byson Heath Arnett, and a cherished number of cousins across his large family. In addition to his parents, Carson was preceded in death by an aunt, Hazel Brashear, and three uncles, Paul Patrick, C. F. (Chub) Salyer, and Jerry Salyer.
Services for Carson will be held on Thursday, March 20, 2025, at Tucker, Yocum & Wilson Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm. The Funeral will begin at 12:00 pm with Burial to follow at the Georgetown Cemetery. Military Honors will be presented during the Funeral and Interment by the United State Marine Corps and American Legion Post 24 Honor Guard.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are suggested to the American Legion Post 24 or the Marine Corps League, Victor Carr Chapter #1447, c/o American Legion Post 24, 220 Connector Road,
Georgetown, KY 40324.
