Obituary published on Legacy.com by Moody-Daniel Funeral Home & Cremation Services on Oct. 1, 2024.
Major Jeffrey "Jeff" Alan Eidson, age 59, of Concord, passed away September 30, 2024. Jeff grew up in Riverdale and graduated from Riverdale High School in 1982, where he was on the football team. After graduation, he served five years in the National Guard, repairing radar cameras on airplanes.
Jeff began his 40-year law enforcement career with the Clayton County Police Department in 1986. He was part of the uniform and motorcycle patrol divisions, rising to the position of Lieutenant.
He left Clayton County Police to work for Dynacorp in Iraq in 2006. There he assisted in the training of Iraqi men to be police officers.
Upon returning from Iraq in 2008, he took a job with the Spalding County Sheriff's Office, achieving the rank of Major in charge of the Uniform Patrol Division, and becoming a member of the Swat Team.
Policing was Jeff's life. During his long career he became a Firearms Instructor, Defensive Tactics Instructor, Women's Self Defense Instructor, became certified in Professional Management, and too many more to mention.
For several years, Jeff was part of the security team at Oak Hill Church, where he enjoyed fellowship with its members and became friends with many in the community.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Joy Linda Eidson.
He is survived by his wife of 38 years; Cindy Dawn Eidson; children: Deputy Alan Chance Eidson and Courtney Dawn Eidson; father: Kenneth Walker Eidson, Jr.; sister: Jennifer Robin Davis (Mark); niece: Kendal; nephews: Spencer and Ethan; brother: Jodi Walker Eidson (Christy); niece: Brittney Michelle Eidson and her daughter, Joy Michelle Eidson.
